How do forests shape the climate — and how does a changing climate reshape our forests? What can science reveal about the forests of tomorrow?

With the municipality of Lund we produced this mini documentary about climate modeling and the forest, as part of an exhibition at Skrylle outside of Lund

Actris Sweden infrastructure got funding to 2030. www.actris.se/node/28

Long live the air pollution measurements!

In forests: Hyltemossa, Norunda, Svartberget.

At sea: Östergarnsholm.

In Arctic: Svalbard.

Higher: with remote sensing + cloud radar.

And intensively: with mobile station GoEPIC.

Secondary forests could be a key factor in climate management

Analysing more than 100,000 field measurements & environmental data, an international research team, incl. Thomas Pugh, researcher in physical geography & MERGE, created maps showing how & when secondary forests bind most carbon:
Secondary forests could be a key factor in climate management – if we protect them in time
Lund University. To fulfil climate goals and avoid the most serious consequences of global heating, we need to both reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and remove carbon dioxide that is already in th...

🌾 AI + satellite data + LPJ-GUESS = better crop forecasts

PhD thesis by Xueying Li (Dept. of Physical Geography & Ecosystem Science, LU; BECC & MERGE) shows how combining AI, satellite data & LPJ-GUESS can improve early yield predictions—key for food security in a changing climate.
More reliable crop forecasts with AI and satellite data
Lund University. Meeting the food demands of a growing global population with limited agricultural resources is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Crop yields are highly sensitive to weather ...

Movie in the making!

Yesterday, Moa Sporre and David Wårlind was shot for a film about modelling the impact of forests on climate, and vice versa. The film is part of a bigger collaboration with Naturum Skrylle in Lund and will be shown for all its visitors to see.

Congratulations to @icossweden.bsky.social who held a successful one-day celebration event yesterday on the topic of the science of changes in ecosystems, the oceans and atmosphere due to climate change.
Thank you all who took part in our celebration of 15 yrs ICOS Sweden as research infrastructure, 30 yrs, Norunda research station, 30 yrs Östergarnsholm mast, 10 yrs Hyltemossa research station and 10 yrs Carbon Portal! We hope, you enjoyed it as much as we did! @icos-ri.eu @hyltemossa.bsky.social
