Software development project team lead and leading source of bad puns. Views expressed are solely those of the voices in my head. (Meren- is a male name prefix)
I'm realizing I get to legitimately use "antediluvian" when talking about how old I am.

Another person being worse is not an excuse for you to be horrible.

Stop the 2-form pseudoauthentication abuse. 2FA is to secure accounts of important things. It's not securing anything when you let someone enter any random email address or phone number they want, but it is limiting your users. The latter seems to be security theater by charity-leeching corporations

Denial of service attack-level "scraping" isn't cool, Anthropic.

On what planet does turning autoplay on by default make sense for text-heavy social media? (This was Reddit, not Bluesky)

What's with the bots on Bluesky today?

Well...I think we've reached the limits of me trying to help a fellow website dev out.

Somehow every time I write a novel, it injects itself into my walking-thoughts. The sort of thoughts that flood in when I get up to walk somewhere.

Not in a helpful "this will be useful later" way. Just the "everyone's going to hate this character, why did I make her the MC?" way.

I'm still shocked a tech security company named itself after the creature that killed Tasha Yar. The Enterprise's security officer.

Tip if you work at Amazon: Make your next black Friday promotion Dark Mode for your site.

Also, a product complaint: New monitor I just bought can't dim as dark as the dying one it replaced, making me have to face just how obnoxiously white the Amazon site is. :P

Yes, officer, this is the comic that made me cry.

Damnit, @xkcd.com , you made me cry again.

Congrats on 15 years, though.

Biggest feature Nebula needs is the ability to completely hide certain videos. Not just "see less often" a channel from one specific slider on the homepage. Especially now that they added MyWildBackyard's phobia-spam thumbnails.

I am quickly being reminded why I hated Samsung. About 40-50% of the notifications are crApps that you can't take away notifications permissions from or uninstall like WIFI calling.

HARD disagree.

There comes a point where you just have to give up and accept that someone isn't listening and was never listening, and will never stop trying to make you into the punching bag for their own awful viewpoints.

It was bad enough when this meme applied to corporations seeking profit through careless use of dangerous tech. Now it's not even profitable.

Oh well. Full scream ahead.

Alt: Dr. Malcolm from Jurassic Park saying "You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could that you didn't stop to think if you should."

Why is everyone's solution to every problem "take things away from people who can't afford a seventh mansion in Miami"?

We should just make this Daylight Savings thing a daily event. Every night, have our clocks give us an extra hour of sleep.

A technology being a bubble does not mean it's not transformative. It means most of the businesses investing in it aren't going to make their money back because they did so carelessly. AI will usher in a new world in the next 20 years, but it will lose people money in the next few years.

@bsky.app 1. There is no "No" option. 2. If I was, shouldn't this be asking in Spanish?

Being a not-for-profit organization (or a scammy corporation who conned an NFP to be their donation manager) does not make it okay to create an account for someone without their consent.

First time in a Fazolis since they added digital kiosks. Had to "Skip" entering a phone number to sign up for spam 3x. Definitely doesn't make me want to come back.
