Restorer and collector of watches by Swiss watch maker Bader of Holderbank, Switzerland. Brands Mentor, Arugo, Badex, Visiorama Luxa, Rhomba. Not for sale. And of course Greyhounds and cats.
Everyday I check the wildlife cameras in the garden. Usually it’s hedgehogs, birds, mice, squirrels, next door’s cat…but today we saw this chap.
Not seen him in the garden before.

So it appears hedgehogs can squeeze under the gate. It also appears our courtyard is now a major hedgehog superhighway. So now the greyhounds need muzzles to out after 8pm. I also go first to make sure the coast is clear. We are glad to see hedgehogs again as we have not seen them for years.

Great news today.
We knew we had a hedgehog in the garden after Blue, the greyhound found him (and regretted it. The hedgehog won the battle) but today we saw there are two. Yippee!

Watch restoration can be a lonely occupation so it’s nice to have someone drop by to offer a helping hand (or paw). This is Ruby. She is a chocolate Burmese cat and about as useful to watch repair as a chocolate teapot.

The greyhound head on floor thing. Here you see 5 greyhounds each in their bed but each with their head on the floor. There must be some really good reason for this but they refuse to tell me.

Latest addition to the collection is this Mentor jump hour watch. The window at the top shows the hour. The window in the lower middle shows the minutes past the hour. The window at the bottom shows the day of the month.

This is the latest addition to the Mentor watches collection. Its Ebosa 23 movement has a broken mainspring but otherwise it is in good condition. The mainspring will be replaced during its servicing.

The latest MENTOR watch to come into the collection. I love the clean, bright dial. Interesting that they did not feel the need to put how many jewels it has. This is usually just under the brand logo. I have yet to open it up but it will probably have just one jewel. So less said the better.

The vacuum cleaner of decency. This is Blue the Greyhound showing his less blue side. Roaching like this says he is happy and relaxed. Head on the floor means he is a greyhound and comfortable like this.

This tells you all you need to know about what this cat thinks about our vegan food. Before we have our dinner we shut our 9 cats out of the room. Last night we enjoyed our vegan dinner but then noticed we had missed this one, T.C. (Topaz Cat), had slept through it not thinking it was food.

This is normal in this mixed Greyhound/Cat household. Moss is not being forced out of his bed. He sleeps like this with his head on the floor.

These are the best greyhounds ever. Today, only 3 days after introducing the 2 new Burmese kittens, we are now muzzles off. Kittens can freely run about, mad chasing, and the dogs are totally ignoring them. Ok, so last year there were 4 new kittens and the year before 2. But very very good dogs.

Creek, the black greyhound, does not have to wear a muzzle like all the others for the kitten introduction sessions. It is one of the benefits of having no teeth. This was day two of kitten meeting. Again they were all very good dogs.

Big day today.
Greyhounds in muzzles and new kittens invited into the same room for first time. There were no incidents. Dogs were good as gold. Ok, so they live with 7 cats but this was the first time they met Jasper and Mica. The dogs clearly recognised that there were two more cats. Good dogs.

Jasper (lilac) and Mica (chocolate) looking cute and doing the old Ying and Yang thing. Burmese kittens don’t have to try too hard to be cute.

Just another day for a greyhound….meet Nelson. British Shorthair, black and white cat. Nelson, aka uncle Nobby, is about 9 or 11 or maybe more (he lied about his age when he signed up with the cat rescue charity). Nelson is quite “big boned”. There is a lot of him.

We have workmen in and these freestanding expanding fencing panels have proven an inspired idea by my wife for containing the Greyhounds. Probably would not work for many dog breeds but our five greyhounds just think ‘there is a barrier so may as well go back to sleep’.

Sometimes, even if you are a big brindle greyhound, you just have to squeeze up to your end of the bed. Opal, the chocolate Burmese cat, is a princess and owns that bed by divine right.
April 14, 2025 at 4:09 PM
Oh, and meet Mica (no.9 cat). Another chocolate Burmese kitten. Jasper’s brother. Well you can’t just get one new kitten.
The Burmese cats are named after gemstones (except Mica is a mineral rather than a gemstone but don’t tell him).

Meet Jasper (cat no.8 arrived yesterday). Lilac Burmese kitten. The boys seem ok with him. The girls are swearing at him. This is to be expected. Girls are now swearing at everyone including their bothers and sisters. They will all get over themselves shortly.

Smelly Greyhound day.
They can run but they could not hide. Today they are fragrant greyhounds. I tried telling them this is better than a shower (well it was easier for us, a quick spray rather than a battle of wills in the bathroom). (Not sponsored)

Meet Daisy-May. Retired racing greyhound. Lives with 4 other greyhounds and 7 cats (soon to be 9 cats). We wanted a sensible female greyhound to balance the pack….but they were all out of those, so we got Daisy instead.
April 8, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Meet Creek, Comanche Creek. He is an 11 year old retired racing greyhound. As you can perhaps tell by the tongue he has no teeth at all.

How many Burmese cats do you see? Apparently it’s not enough. We have a Lilac boy joining the heap next week, all being well.
