Li Auto is shutting 100 stores in China over sales shortfalls.

Not long ago you had to stand in line to sit in their 理想MEGA Minivan. Now Xiaomi is all the rage. It's incredible to see how incredibly fast the market moves.

Depressing thread.
If this is true (and that’s not a small if), it is reasonable to posit that Bezos is trying to offload the Post. Or kill it altogether.

Sports is a top driver of traffic and subscriptions for most news sites.

And we’ve seen how Bezos and Lewis have mangled the Opinion section.

Another day, another flight.

This China Eastern A320 NEO is taking me back from Xi'an to Hongqiao. It is packed, as always.

I was shown the price chart for upgrades on CES. Some good deals here.

Serious question: what products or services do Chinese consumers import from the US at scale and will that market exist in 2036?

We all know about soybeans, US gov bonds and Boeing but actual consumer products? I can think of a ton of Chinese that US consumers desire but the other way around?

It's an absolutely wild evening of fog-related delays, go-arounds and diversions at PVG Shanghai Pudong airport tonight.

Glad I am not scheduled to land there tonight.

Another day, another flight.

My first trip of 2026 is taking me to Xi'an on the very first C919 China Eastern got back in the day.

Coincidentally, I was on the maiden commercial flight from Chengdu on this exact aircraft.

The shop generating the highest revenue per sqm at this North Bund Mall in Shanghai is a Gym for overweight dogs.

I am smitten.

Very good article. I have been speaking with multiple Korean bands, labels and managers who would love to perform in China but I won't try to apply for relevant visas for them until it is ("informally") being communicated to me that those would get approved. It just takes too much time otherwise.

Joerg Wuttke arrived in China in 1982. The former China head for BASF and the EU Chamber of Commerce certainly lived up to his reputation for frank talk and spicy takes in the latest Episode of Living History.

My local restaurant/ktv/music complex in Putuo District has started a Marriage Market display for young people. Looks like they got quite good participation going. I never see old people here, so I doubt these were filled out by parents.

Another day, another flight.
My last flight of the year is taking me back home to Shanghai from Paris.

The China Eastern 777 is completely packed. Upgrades were being offered at €1,000 - a bad deal given that when flying from Shanghai they go for €340.

Starbucks charges €7.15 for a grande hot chocolate at Paris Charles DeGaulle airport.

I'm sorry, guys. I just can't.
It's €4 at PVG.

I'm hearing [on a podcast] that there are Chinese companies in California illegally importing peptides (GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic) because they are cheaper in China. Someone needs to write an in-depth thinkpiece about the pros and cons.

Another day, another flight.
But what a ride!

I'm about to board a rare matte-black painted ATR 72. It's a short hop on Alsie Express from Sønderborg to København.

I'm not sure if there will be other passengers today, the airport is entirely empty right now.

Another day, another flight.

It's my Xmas trip home to Flensburg and MU 707 is taking me to Copenhagen, one of the closest airports there.

The A330 is fairly full but I managed to snag an entire middle row for myself. I'm going to sleep well.
