Dr. Duncan McIlroy and PhD student Simon Rosse-Guillevic recently published about a new 550 million year old proto animal, Aninoides coombsorum, discovered in Upper Island Cove.

As proud members of the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network, @memorialu.bsky.social celebrates this impressive joint milestone!

This important achievement brings us closer to more precise, data-driven cancer care across Canada.
It all started with one.

Now we’re 15,000 strong.

In 2021, we set out to create Canada’s largest and most complete cancer resource: the Gold Cohort.

Today, over 15,000 genomes have been sequenced.

Members of our Human Biosciences dept have been studying implicit bias & how to effectively increase representation during their hiring process.

The findings offer a roadmap for future inclusion efforts in academic settings without relying on internal expertise. 🗺

From 1950s Open Houses to leading major research efforts MUNL Biology has always been committed to understanding & protecting the natural world across NL.

Dr. Kim Welford, a @memorialu.bsky.social researcher in Earth Sciences, is working with @uqam.ca and Yale to harness the power of earthquakes.

They plan to use seismic energy to create a 3D model of the subsurface of NFLD, down to a 250km depth.

@mun-cs.bsky.social became a department in 1978 with 7 faculty and 2 support staff.

Today, the Computer Science department has 21 faculty and lecturers, 12 staff and hundreds of grad and undergrad students, who research topics like how to use AI models, build prosthetic limbs, and build robots. 🤖

The Human Biosciences program was the result of reflection, re-visioning, and modernization – this is the only undergraduate HuBi degree offered in Canada. 🧬

We hosted our annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) as part of Memorial’s Research Week yesterday afternoon, where 22 graduate students in the faculty competed!

Five emerged victorious from the competition – congratulations to our winners and all presenters!
