It's finally happened: hearing a person say "I read it on the internet" about a topic they are not an expert in now generates negative trust in me. The dead internet theory is. The SNR has dropped to 0.

Tech bros believe that success is totally merit based (i.e. "there exists a path to dethrone TikTok, and I will own it" - with a total disregard of the basic stats question "out of how many"), and that super intelligence is omnipotence, and that they will earn their right to be kings/gods.

In my ripe old age as a developer, I'm starting to see the various areas of my intellectual life come together: there is a link between the Tech Bros belief that AI is the future path, Michael Sandel's ideas on the toxicity of meritocracy and Varoufakis' views on techno feudalism...

Ignoring his speculation as to the rate of AI progress, super intelligence is not omnipotence. An SAI cannot suddenly vanquish an NP-hard problem like a genie. The TSP exists and will continue to exist no matter how intelligent we get. This is what is meant by "hard".

Have been using chatgpt for coding work consistently for months now. I am still not convinced this isn't an elaborate Monty Python Cheese Shop skit... When my questions are sufficiently difficult, the answers are almost designed to waste my time more than anything else.

My contrarian bet (<10% odds) for posterity:
1. modern LLMs as they are architected will prove to be an evolutionary deadend for ASI, although they might yet approach AGI'like properties.
2. Proper AGI in the path of ASI will be *at least* 1 order of magnitude smaller in size than modern LLMs.
