#367britlit A great mini-thesis, and it can be applied in many historical contexts outside of Milkman.
MT: The killing of dogs and cats, while obviously being a threat/warning to those causing unrest, also showcases the way that the British view the Irish as animals that they can simply slaughter if they become too annoying. Its another way of dehumanising the opposition.

They contrast one another. Okwe maintains a very indifferent posture to life, keeps quiet. However, Senay shows exactly how she feels, questions, and openly tells how she believes.

Despite her devastation throughout the novel, it honestly still shocked me that Carmel was the one to make the choice to walk away. It ended well, but I wasn't expecting it, especially with the tight hold she had to her religious values #367britlit

Barry admits out loud that he is gay and says he is “proud of it”, in Chapter 10. This is a big shift from previous chapters..yet he still prefers comfort over life with Morris. #367britlit

Multiple people being shot in the pursuit of Milkman, I assume being due to different versions of the rumor being spreading around the town, I feel like this is important to note.. #367britlit

“Don’t worry,’ teacher then said. ‘Your unease, even your temporary unhingement, dear students, in the face of this sunset is encouraging. It can only mean progress. It can only mean enlightenment. Please don’t think you have betrayed or ruined yourselves.” #367britlit

“ Knowledge didn’t guarantee power, safety or relief and often for some it meant the opposite...leaving no outlet for dispersal either...Purposely not wanting to know therefore, was exactly what my reading-while-walking was about.” #367britlit

“Michal: ‘You’re right, all children are going to lead horrible lives. You may as well save them the hassle.” (52)
Michal= The Pillowman but without the sympathy and pain for the children's suffering..

This is the kind of book you finish and then stare at a wall..

I know it's unrealistic, but I wish we could have heard from Lola. About why she was comfortable in her silence, letting Robbie be accused instead, marrying Paul, etc. Those situations are never simple, but we don't get hear from her. #367britlit

“If this girl has so fully misunderstood...how might it affect the lives of the two adults? Might she come between them in some disastrous fashion? Or bring them closer, either by design or accident?” (336, the response letter from Briony’s submission) #367britlit

How does an older Briony carry what she condemned Robbie to as a child, in a deeper sense than just wanting his forgiveness? There is a comment made about Briony looking for him in the injured people she is caring for.. #367britlit

An eerie connection between the fits Tommy used to throw as a child, and his screaming into the woods after finding out there are no deferrals. A deeper sadness, a deeper loss, and having to fully accept his life will end as a human organ market.. #367britlit

"If anything, the donations went back to being a subject to be avoided, but not in the way it had been when we were younger. This time round it wasn’t awkward or embarrassing any more; just sombre and serious." (89)

How much does the visual aspect of what is in front of us impact how we react?
In "The Werewolf", the wart is enough to condemn someone to death.
In "Lady of the House of Love", her beauty and seduction is more important than her odd behaviors, twitching, or what he sees in the house #367britlit

Does Wonderland begin to dismiss Alice the more that her reality does? Her authority over the "rules" seems to mean less and less.. #367britlit

Is there a reason that Alice's size means so much to the people in Wonderland? Is it strictly because it's different from them, or is there something deeper? If they are all "mad" or "odd", what makes her "oddness" out of place? #367britlit
