There was karaoke at the Easter egg hunt for neighborhood kids and a lady did Squeeze Box. She knew all the lyrics, but I don’t think she’s ever really *listened* to the lyrics.

Microsoft just added CoPilot to Word without asking me. I don’t want this to be the first thing I see when I open a new document but it seems impossible to get rid of? Anyone use a Word alternative they like?

33k per year for a marketing coordinator is almost 3,000 less than minimum wage (35,775/year) and 500 less than minimum wage if you’re not getting paid for a lunch break (7.5 hrs a day; 33,540). Not even intern money for a non-entry level job. Bad look, Dundurn!

Horny Victorians justify their affair by using automatic writing to contact dead friends who tell them they’ve absolutely got to get it on with each other so they have a baby that will save the world. Absolutely wild story in the new Granta.

Love a writer that takes a universal passing thought—in this case “The west Edmonton mall is a weird place”—and does you the solid of giving you a bemused, book-length deep dive into why that is.

But those poor dolphins…

Really generous review of VANISHING MONUMENTS here, a book that you may have missed (bc it came out in April of 2020), and which I humbly recommend you not continue to miss. (The audiobook is also free on Spotify & possibly other streaming places.)

Tis the season to remind people that I think we need to stop listening too closely to awards and juries when it comes to what book/author we should read but, instead just look toward what our friends, our local booksellers, literally anyone else is reading and loving.

Yesterday, past Giller winner David Bergen - who read at the Boycott Giller event in Winnipeg - published an editorial about why he's boycotting the prize:

Clicked “save” on a university job application site and was immediately thanked for submitting my application. Should I let them know that save and submit mean two very different things, or just hope my half-finished application is good enough to get the job?
