Suffolk ploughsoil is rich in far-travelled wonders. One could teach a geology course using just one field in Gislingham! Thanks @megwildflowers.bsky.social for specimen cutting & pictures. Perhaps some from Charnwood @charnwoodforest.bsky.social, others from Scotland.

Sometimes Suffolk ploughsoil throws up a lump of magic. From Gislingham, a glacial erratic of porphyry dappled with attractive colours due to weathering of minerals. @pavementgeology.bsky.social @megwildflowers.bsky.social @geolsocnorfolk.bsky.social @bgs.ac.uk @geolsoc.bsky.social #geology 🌍🪨

#Helleborinechallenge #WildFlowerHour
An attempt to show the differences of leaf edges of Broad leaved Helleborines and Green-flowered Helleborines. Green flowered are slightly thinner so the focus isn’t great.

A reminder as to why to tidy up after yourself. These two fallow, must have had a horrific slow death😢

The geological equivalent of an ornithological 'LBJ', this 'little grey job' glacial erratic w tiny garnets and 1000s of co-aligned sillimanite crystals, was found in a Suffolk field.
Originates somewhere up north, perhaps Glen Clova.
