The gifts of the land are not a given.
Thank you to American farmers for their ceaseless work to feed the people. The pressure increases the risk of suicide to that of 3.5 the rate of the general population.
A kind word and visit can make all the difference.

Regenerative practices also ensure less financial reliance on federal funding. The Trump administration has frozen USDA funds from signed contracts leaving American farmers in the lurch.
Thinking of our brothers and sisters today. ✊🏼

Happy Black History Month.
Meet George Washington Carver, scientist, farmer, and agronomist who helped cotton farmers build their soil with crop rotation and created products for the legumes used to ensure a financially viable market.

Thank you George.

Frost on animals outside means they’re well insulated. Dowi is a Belted Galloway comfortable in cold weather with a thick coat and a lovely layer of fat to keep her warm. Animals with wet backs in freezing weather will be cold.
Pretty girl got a great brisket scratch this morning! ❤️

Ruminants keep warm by eating - it’s like a giant furnace in their belly.
Farmers started increasing food rations last week to prepare for this weather. Unrestricted access to hay is critical. As is a wind break or barn with bedding for their feet.
Stay warm everyone!

Bioregioning. Organizing decisions and life according to your watershed system.

Here is the link to maps in the United States. The US government is already supporting such efforts and municipalities working together toward resilience.

Half the farm workers in the US are undocumented. If mass deportations begin and your food prices increase, FAFO applies.
We need 2 million immigrants a year to keep the American workforce at its current size.
Rhetoric and policy matters.
Immigrant farmworkers in the US say they are preparing for incoming president Donald Trump's promised mass deportations, including by assigning guardians for their children if they are detained. Reuters spoke to workers and groups supporting them reut.rs/4g1hh66 1/8
Immigrant US farmworkers prepare for Trump mass deportation plan
About half of U.S. farmworkers are undocumented. Some are assigning guardians to U.S.-born children in case of detainment.

I’ve a bit of a grist mill fetish as you’ll see with time. Today I was back at my first at Wayside Inn.
My hunt for my own mill seat continues!

Did you know when Beaver were present in North America at full population we had 60% more surface water? Or that farmers and fire fighting efforts deploy populations for water preservation now? They slow current and clean water as particulates drop. Great ecosystem for hatcheries!

A sap drop fell on me from a maple yesterday. It’s not quite time yet to start sugaring but if you need proof spring is coming…it’s here!

As you dream of your spring garden and pastures, mind the species you choose.

Thank you to all the farmers leading the way. Carbon Cowboys, Kiss The Ground, and Six inches of Soil are great places to learn.

The best tool for regenerative farming and parasite load reduction.
These guys make the BEST soil! Every spring we gather the excess from the winter barn area and dump it into our gardens. Chickens spread patties and eat flies off the cows for snacks. Cows deter predators.
