A prerequisite to good teaching is almost, almost always an authentic curiosity and passion for the content you are working with.
(In other words, I think it is really hard to effectively teach something you don't have enthusiasm for yourself.)

This week, my district made the decision of which scripted, packaged literacy program we will be purchasing for next year. After spending 20 years building a literacy curriculum I am so proud of, next year I’ll be reading out of a workbook. I don’t know how we keep doing this, friends.

Those of us challenging the “science of reading/learning” are not rejecting science/evidence but confronting the ideological, political, and market misrepresentation of science/evidence for non-educational purposes
