The OAH, together with the American Historical Association + National Council for the Social Studies, is urging the public to submit comments on the proposed patriotic education funding priority. Find out how you can take action: https://ow.ly/qyla50XaEF2

Does anyone have advice / strategies for US PhD students interested in finding positions overseas, particularly in Canada, the EU, or the UK?

Another dissertation chapter in, one more to finish drafting, one left with major edits. The end is near!

I'll be at OAH 2026 on the panel "Legal, Extralegal, Illegal and Otherwise: Policing Queerness in the Long Twentieth Century"! I had a great time at this year's conference and I can't wait to meet more amazing historians next year!

Looking forward to presenting "Children of the Corn: Growing Up Queer in Modern Rural Ohio" at NWSA! Hope to meet some folks there!

Today is a day for ambiguous news, it seems: NWSA only lets the submitter of a panel know the results of their decision, and I'm an alternate for a fellowship. 🫰

I'm very excited to say that I'll be presenting at AHA26 in Chicago. Our panel "Complicating the Rural Queer Midwest: (Homo)Normalcy, Space, and Pleasure" has a great group of scholars, and is being sponsored by the LGBTQ+ History Association!

We've clearly left far too many 'war powers' and 'war times' acts on the books after their intended uses expired. We should fix that - if we ever get the chance. There's no good reason to leave tools for totalitarians just lying around.

I had a great time at OAH! It was amazing to see some faculty members I hadn't had the chance to speak with in years, and also got to meet so many amazing folks interested in queer history.

Looking forward to the Organization of American Historians conference this week!

I'll be presenting as part of the MHA lightening round "Midwestern History Looks Ahead: New and Upcoming Scholarship In Progress"

I hope to make some new friends and professional contacts!

On a positive note, I just submitted my second dissertation chapter to my chair. It's about 10,000 words longer than my masters thesis, so it needs chopped up into 2 or 3. Because 125 pages is too long for one chapter. But it's the longest thing I've ever written and I think it's pretty ok!

Very excited to announce that I'll be presenting my oral history project "Children of the Corn: Growing up Queer in Modern Rural Ohio" at the American Studies Association Conference this November!

The number of posts from Canadian and European folks / institutions looking for US academics willing to relocate is really motivating me to hurry up and finish this dissertation.

Well, I've worked for two hours but my dissertation wasn't one of the things that got touched. On the other hand, conference proposals are moving! Hoping to meet other queer Historians and folks in related disciplines at OAH25 (I'll be there!) as well as ASA25, NWSA25, and AHA26 - pending acceptance

Worrying & waiting to hear about funding and conference decisions are the only things keeping me from worrying about the collapse of democracy 24/7. And people wonder what the appeal of escapism is.

Obligatory photos of my cat, drumstick, in his three phases: stop working and feed me, passed out, pooling in a lap.

I do appreciate that I have a 'cats' feed available to me at all times on here.

A list of resources on queer history, a running collection of government pages that have been altered, removed or censored, K-12 queer curriculum, and queer archives.
