Retired sportswriter, which now means I can analyze my Detroit Tigers, Florida Gators and attend the Indy 500 every May. Spent much of my life in radio stations. #AT40 #Tigers #Indy500 #UF
Does it feel like the first time? Are you a long, long way from home? This sounds urgent.
#at40 Doctor, I alternate between being hot blooded and being cold as ice. I also have double vision.

And clips the F-word for G-rated audiences.
Like the great Who’s Next, the Who Are You long player closes with an 8 minute track, released as a single, where it would be sliced to shreds. #AT40

You and I had the same thought!
Reminiscing about Glenn Miller’s Band in 1978 is like T-Swift singing about TLC in 2025. #AT40

"Reminiscing" had a retro 1940s jazz vibe in 1978, which would be like someone reminiscing about Nirvana now. #AT40

Well, the picture is changing now you're part of a crowd
They're laughing at something, and the music's loud
A girl comes towards you, you once used to know
You reach out your hand, but you're all alone in those
Time passages

(That verse always gets to me)
And here's one of best songs ever written. Iconic. Evocative.

Time Passages.

Loved it at 12 but I didn't get it yet.

Yeah, "It paid for my mansion but I cringe every time I get on an elevator and Time Passages is playing."
I saw Al Stewart a decade ago and he complained (good naturedly) about still having to sing "Time Passages," which he considered a trifle. Said it was like Chuck Berry having his biggest hit with "My Ding A Ling." #AT40

"Time Passages!" I love this song, but Al Stewart said his record label wanted another song that sounded like "Year Of The Cat" instead of his insistence of writing songs about historical events. So he wrote music you'll hear in every dentist's office today. #AT40

The last of the three songs that teased the top 10 for Firefall. "Just Remember I Love You" and "Strange Way" wound up at 11. #AT40

And as a young radio guy, I got to play all the music that creates those same memories for Gen X. Music is our universal connection. Thank you for tuning in.
Getting old is not fun.

BUT, a blessing of being Gen X is that we have the full range of music we were exposed to. Because we had radio, we actually listened to the music from generations before ours. It was unavoidable, not that we wanted to avoid it.

So we got all of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s,

Fall of 1978? I'm in my junior year at the University of Florida, finally working air shifts at WRUF-AM. And sporting serious bushy hair (shaved off the beard that made me look like the Burger King). #AT40

My wife used to let the rabbits chew corners off her students' homework -- first time was an accident -- so they were excited to see the chew marks the next morning. One bunny in particular loved record album covers. We had to stack those on a higher shelf.

He also sang the theme song to the "Hercules" cartoon series back in the 60s. Which was probably the best thing about it.
Yup. Had other hits in the ‘50s (“The Teen Commandments”), the ‘60s (“Hold Me Tight”), and the ‘70s (“Stir It Up”). Never really was an unknown, just that some people forgot. Several neighbors had a copy of the *Hold Me Tight* Lp, but didn’t remember him when “I Can See Clearly Now” came out. #at40

#AT40 was sometimes like listening to the K-Tel version of the hits. Just sliced to ribbons because the three hours had to fit on the number of record discs mailed to stations around the country.
Casey really cutting these songs off at the two minute mark. Blame it on American City Suite. #AT40

The difference between Florida-Georgia is going to come down to the #Gators not making a 4th-and-1 and Georgia making one to seal the game.

But good decision to go for it. Six point lead does nothing. And the defense is playing well. You've got the momentum.
Fourth-and-1 from the UGA 18 ... Jadan Baugh losses half a yard.

Zero chance on that play. Awful. #Gators
