After watching Death by Lightning on Netflix, I have to say that I really want to watch a spinoff now that follows the adventures of Chester A Arthur. @nickofferman.bsky.social is terrific.

Got back out on a 4000-footer on Friday! Love me some Mount Jackson. And now... Mount Webster too!

Keep hearing from booksellers how they appreciate Bookshop.org, so I thought I'd set up an affiliate shop to support them. I love me a good bookstore.

Exploring Bookshop.org - wandering matt
One thing I discovered this first year of bookselling is Bookshop.org, and how many booksellers prefer it to all other online retailers.

Nothing quite makes you reevaluate your life like burping at the same time you happen to drive by a skunk you didn't see on the highway. Man, when you take that next breath, it’ll make you question everything you’ve been up to.

Very inspiring to see all of the riders participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge this weekend. What a beautiful thing to witness. Congrats to all the riders!

Saw the Lumineers last week, and one guy proved that the ladder on the green monster actually does hold!

I'm beginning to think the main reason my kids need to go to college is so that they can learn how to use one towel for multiple days.

I try to get out for a climb once a week, but have been skunked by weather and colds lately. Finally got out on Mount Willard yesterday for a beautiful hike.

New poem! Little background: been on a long, complicated health journey, and real healing only began when I took this mindset. Hope it helps others.

"We must remember that the future is neither wholly ours nor wholly not ours, so that neither must we count upon it as quite certain to come nor despair of it as quite certain not to come."
-Epicurus, Letter to Menoeceus

Decided to read up on the guy who inspired my 1st poem 30 yrs ago.

Don't normally do book reviews, but I read a great one by Teresa Strasser the other day called Making It Home that's worth mentioning. I'm averaging 2 or 3 good ones for every 20 right now. The other two top reads were James by Percival Everett, and The Wide Wide Sea by Hampton Sides. 👌

Felt good to get back out on the trail yesterday. Always feel a jolt of inspiration for my writing projects after a good hike.

As I tackle book 2, I'm trying to start each day with a little introspection to get my writing chops warmed up. I share a lot of things here, including the writing process and sometimes, like today, about why I write at all.

Have Words, Will Write for Nothing - wandering matt
I've made zippo so far writing. Zilch. But that's ok. I have words I want to share, and I would write for nothing. Oh wait, I already do!

Becoming a writer has led to learning a lot of new things, including web development! Finally took the time to revamp my website www.wanderingmatt8.com

I like the idea of having a "home" place where I can tease out ideas.

My first book came out in September of 2024, and it's been a wild ride learning about the "what comes after" part of writing a book. I'm working on the next book now, but if you'd like to check out what 4000s by 40 is about, you can head over to wanderingmattlarson.com/4000s-by-40-...

Checking BlueSky out for the first time. Tired of the fake news and vitriol on X, and Threads makes my head hurt. Hoping this is a good place to share ideas, learn what other writers are up to, and get straight talk.
