🐧🧊 Incredible underwater footage of penguin life, shot from the first person of one of them.

🇺🇦 This beauty was captured thanks to Ukrainian scientists from the Vernadsky Station in Antarctica, who put a GPS tracker and a tiny camera on the bird.

A photo from a Swedish bird news feed - an ID puzzle. Is this a partially leucistic Siberian Tit? Or a Willow Tit with some form of erythrism? Any thoughts @richardkbroughton.bsky.social?

This is so outrageous that there are hardly any words to describe the disgrace.
The EU marks a low moment for citizens' health, for science, for democracy, for biodiversity, and for farmers.
Congratulations for those who've just shown us who's the real boss in this puppet theatre.
🗑️💢 @europarl.europa.eu just cleared away the few remaining environmental safeguards in EU farming policy

Two rushed rounds of so-called “simplifications” have gutted years of progress and handed #BigAgri exactly what it wanted: money to pollute with no strings attached ✂️

Here’s what we’ve lost ⬇️

Very, very cool study looking at the effect of local population density on vocal individuality in Little Owls from my colleagues that is finally out!

#Ornithology #RaptorResearch
This one is finally out! We found that local conspecific density does affect vocal individuality in a non-learning species🦉. For more details, check out our new paper 👉

Happy to have contributed to a new paper on the wonderful Yelkouan shearwaters, highlighting just how vulnerable this species is to human-driven threats 🌊
How does chick-rearing affect fledging success in Yelkouan shearwaters? Proxies for diet varied between colonies, while fledglings grounded on first flight were more likely to have been poorly fed. Published in Marine Biology: doi.org/10.1007/s002... Funding by @dornitholges.bsky.social and EU LIFE

We show that falcons attracted to orchards using nestboxes reduce food safety risks and crop damage from wild birds.

Falcons reduce pre‐harvest food safety risks and crop damage from wild birds
In the absence of American kestrels, there are more birds in orchards. This leads to increased crop damage and more bird faecal contamination.
