Bored. Bach (not that one). Long lunch.
This boy just bought me a pint. I thought time only happened to other people.

Why can't I work out who the young woman is in this photo stood beside me?! This must be how Prince Andrew felt.

DAMMIT. If that kestrel had flown off with that deer, National Geographic would owe me at least TWO Michaela Strachans.

Dinner in the Morvan forests of Burgundy to meet the in-laws.

Burgundy is pretty right now.

I could not love this more.
Here’s Harpo again on a much earlier encounter with Gershwin:

Helen was as smart as she was courageous, funny, and kind. I'll miss her. You wouldn't regret giving some of her writing a go: helendecruz.net

John Berger (especially To The Wedding), Nabokov (the lot), and Iris Murdoch (especially The Sea, The Sea).
Novels to re-read every decade or so, because you see something new and more insightful in them each time as you get older. The Austen canon certainly. Middlemarch. Anna Karenina. War and Peace. Crime and Punishment. Bleak House. Other suggestions?
How true. Currently re reading the Jane Austen canon for first time since my teens. Utterly different experience. Richer, funnier, even more insightful

Seen this masterpiece, @seanjones.org?
June 4, 2025 at 11:27 PM
Try as I might, I can't quite get the hang of this website. One day I'll summon the gumption/caprice to leave X. But for now, I'll just use this account to periodically say Hiya! to @seanjones.org, whose enviable decency and frivolity is much missed in this head. Hi Sean!

Either the Vatican dropped the ball on the #popeLeo DD clearance or is ramping up for an apocalyptic row.
I am not sure that any of us is ready for a Pope who tweets in a personal capacity, speaks fluent English and can therefore engage in public American debates, if he so chooses

Took maniac for dinner in Islington. If it's not so noisy that she runs away screaming, she's awesome company.

Castle Kirk on Lough Corrib in Connemara, where my mother's from. Honestly, I've not pissed about with the colour settings. If you get lucky, this is exactly what it looks like just after dusk. It's magical. And fucking terrifying if you're six and your mad uncle is throwing bats at you.

I visited a chapel designed by an architect friend yesterday. My God, it is utterly glorious:

In 1996, reporting on Utd vs. Liverpool FA Cup final where Cantona got the late winner, the journalist Hugh McIlvanney wrote the headline "All the Better for Being Cast Before Swine". I think of that sentence often, including when watching the good Bishop imploring Trump to temper his hatred.
This is the face of courage and compassion. Thank you Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde for speaking truth to power on behalf of the marginalized.

@kadambari.bsky.social - Bizarrely, I was just searching through some DMs on another platform, and I came across a dialogue way more articulate than my typical exchanges. I couldn't identify my correspondent until To The Wedding cropped up. Then I knew it was you! Hope you're well! M
