Good to see Baroness O'Grady raising our findings of the mammoth investigation I did with @mattchapman.bsky.social into the seasonal worker visa in a recent debate on the Fair Work Agency.

She correctly highlights how immigration enforcement hampers effective labour enforcement.
Baroness O'Grady highlights a story from @tbij.bsky.social revealing hundreds of workers had stories of abuse and exploitation, but none of them were investigated by a Home Office solely focused on their immigration status.

A Fair Work Agency must help workers report concerns without fear.

Smoke and mirrors: How big tobacco manipulates science in Japan
In Japan, not only does the tobacco industry have close ties to government, but universities are also vulnerable to its influence. In this equation, public health loses out.

Work sets you free
Our latest on the seasonal worker visa.

What jumped out at me when reading this government-commissioned report is that farm-owners will quite openly say that they prefer migrant workers to accrue huge levels of debt, because this pushes them to work harder so that they can pay it off.
