Oi. Microsoft. Put back the option to send #MSDyn365BC reports to excel data AND layout.

You scamps.

That new logo is a bit copiloty

Does that mean the copilot elements are going to be useful.

Or…not.

Someone on LinkedIn bigging up copilot for knowing how a MID function works in excel.

Oddly enough, google knows too. Not sure what the value copilot added there but our correspondent wants us to know about it.

What this? No, it’s nothing! Just the standard terms and conditions any pirate offers. Just sign it ok and we can get on with stealing all your stuff legally.

I have a shared diary at work. All the project managers have the right to edit.

I’d like to put an approval workflow in place that requires them to ask for my permission to add or edit an entry to the diary.

I’ve googled and the words “outlook” and “approval” bring up a LOT of irrelevant stuff

Client: we need a feature that does “this”

Us: Builds a feature that does “this”

C: Oh, it needs to also do “that”

Us: Adds “that”

C: Why can’t it do “x” I’m sure we asked for “x” (they did not)

Us: Gives them “x”

C: We’ve decided that you’ve made it too complicated and we don’t want it.

The new #MSDyn365BC feed seems to work ok. Find it here.

Just created a new #MSDyn365BC feed and I’m testing it out. It includes #BCALhelp and a couple of other common hashtags but I could do with a reminder of others we might commonly use.

I’m testing it in a sandbox before publishing it to replace the now defunct one.

Apologies to everyone who is waiting for me to find a replacement feed service for #MSDyn365BC and #BCALhelp

I’m really busy with work just now but I will get to it shortly.

For every person saying everyone will become an AI vibe coder, there’s 743,000 people who are still unaware of Tables in Excel.

I famously do not like or trust AI. But Kurt has a more measured and hopeful view. I hope he’s right.

Wrote a #PowerBI dashboard for a client. The guy I wrote it for was sacked shortly after for… reasons

Today I got a support ticket. The company they have hired to write the *same* dashboard (that they clearly don’t know they have) need me to explain the relations between tables in #MSDyn365BC

There’s an irony in having to switch off Teams and Outlook in order to get any work done don’t you think?

Any Power Query nerds here?

I’ve got some VBA looking up a file path into a named range in my excel workbook

I want to use that file path as the data source for my main query

The idea is that the user searches for the file, hits refresh and PQ returns the nice clean data in a new tab

Any ideas?

Father’s Day card featured pictures of my favourite activities but there was no excel spreadsheet. It’s like they don’t know me at all.

Ongoing chat in the Dynamics team at work about just how shit Copilot in #MSDyn365BC is and how AI in general has just made our jobs much harder.

Say Hi to my pal and our Senior Dev, Ian Silvers.

Why in the name of all that’s holy is there no way for a non-dev to add a Send Approval Request button to the Project G/L Journal page (1020) in #MSDyn365BC????

Why is it not there by default in the first place?

Aaaaahhhhh!!!!

If you write garbage and need AI to tidy it up, how will you know it’s not made your garbage more garbagey if all you can write is garbage?
This might be a controversial take, but: If you need an AI “writing coach” to wrangle your typing into a shape that it is publishable in an opinion section, then you are not publishable. You haven’t reckoned with the ideas yet. The robot isn’t helping you; it’s just adding icing.

Each month the #MSDyn365BC consultant team meet for skills-sharing. We prep something a feature and present to the group. Or we troubleshoot an issue one of us is struggling with. Yesterday this cropped up. Most of us had never heard of it. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynami...

Meagan hits the nail squarely on the head.

Generative AI products are, at best, prototypes of prototypes.

I’ve yet to see any where the output doesn’t have to be checked or where the job would be done faster by a person.
I saw a demo of a gen AI product that converts natural language into SQL queries. With most of these products, the pitch is to give business users direct access to the data to ask things like "what were sales last year?". I have the same questions (in addition to security concerns) each time.

Data Exchange Definitions in #MSDyn365BC are a bit of a nightmare. I’m struggling to render a date dd/MM/yyyy. And I cannot for the life of me work out how to insert a column that comprises of 14 spaces

The internet is coming up blank and the MS documentation is sparse to say the least.
