🌍🏥 Clean-Air Policies Prevented 271,984 Hospital Admissions

China’s air pollution controls (2013–2017) cut PM2.5 by 28.6% & black carbon by 20.4%, reducing hospitalisations for heart disease, stroke & depression. Depression saw the largest decline (34.4%).

Discussing trade-offs in development is more crucial than ever. Pointed out by @lflopezcalva.bsky.social at a recent World Bank Report launch. Reminded me of Amartya Sen: The first question of economics is not what to produce, but what to sacrifice.
