Outside of the biomed. research death & unemployment that will happen from the #NIH indirects cut:

- tuition hikes ➡️ increased healthcare costs

- state tax loss ➡️ cuts to other programs

- loss of educated workforce ➡️ affects all sectors w/ compounded effect on K-12 education

What have I missed?

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings.

But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
Direct Economic Contributions
NIH directly supports the economy through investments in research institutions and job formation.

Notably missing from their list of things that are sexist & racist are the words “men” and “male”.

Accountability as a word and a concept is also completely absent.
I strongly recommend people review the following Senate Commerce Committee report published on Oct 9, 2024. The methodology used there may offer a blueprint for the grant/contract review taking place across agencies now: www.commerce.senate.gov/services/fil...

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

Women’s health research and resources have now been scrubbed from the NIH and CDC.

Please download everything you can using web.archive.org. Most of the information is still accessible at the moment.
