I wrote “The Three Laws of Social Robotics” as an allegory for how invisible I felt in some of my friendships, as a way of wrestling with the feelings. I was beyond thrilled to have it published in Analog, and I love that I can now listen to it as a song:

My story “Harvesting Wishes” is a piece of space opera about dandelions, multiple realities, genies, and quantum hyper crystals. The song turned out so pretty; it’s a perfect end to the album, being about choosing to live in the reality you have:

I strongly identified with Worf as a kid, but over the years, I’ve come to mostly… not love Klingon episodes. Their ideas about honor are generally problematic, contradictory, self-damaging and kinda foolish. All that said…

I love, love, loved today’s new Starfleet Academy.

I finally finished converting Brunch at the All Allen Cafe into a soundtrack album! It’s 48 stories long, so this is no small feat.

This is exciting, because it means I now get to test the album out by just listening through it…

I think turning a collection of stories into a collection of songs is a fascinating way to re-experience the work from another perspective. For example, "Rocket Man" by Ray Bradbury vs. Elton John. Same concept, totally different experience.
After converting my other Entangled Universe short story collections into musical soundtracks, I thought I knew what to expect from Brunch at the All Alien Cafe... but when it comes down to it, the two Wespirtech collections and Maradia's Robot Emporium are all about ideas...

Converting all of my short story collections into musical soundtracks has really allowed me to see my own fiction from new angles, bringing out themes I hadn't noticed before. It's been a really fascinating process.

It’s so nice having a new Star Trek to look forward to every week.

The show Shrinking started when I was experiencing immense brain fog and also loneliness from losing several communities. It’s filled with actors I’ve loved for many years, and every time the theme song says, “I want to hear myself think again,” I just feel so seen and included.

At this point, I wouldn’t actually recommend anything but self-publishing to anyone out there. All the tools are readily available for anyone who chooses to use them, and the peace of mind that comes from having all that control over your own words is immeasurable.

I wrote an essay on furry fiction a few years back (‘22) that was very well received (even won a Leo Literary Award and nominated for an Ursa Major).

Here’s a line from it:

“Arguably, every android character ever written is furry, because androids are anthropomorphic machines.”

Two years ago when my publisher unceremoniously dumped me, I would never have guessed that by now I’d have soundtrack albums for (almost) all of my short story collections, a full line of action figures for one of my main book series, and an actual graphic novel of my webcomic.

Consul Eliana Tor tests out a prototype blazor!

Our plan is to have each Tri-Galactic Trek officer come in a little bag with a stand, blazor, and a uni-meter. Very exciting!

It’s weird to me that I find it easier to write with a low-commitment TV show on in the background, but hey, work with the brain you’ve got.

As a kid, I used to do my homework in front of the endless Star Trek: TNG reruns — if I timed it right, I could catch three a night.

Now I’m writing Tri-Galactic Trek stories with Heartland playing in the background — extremely sincere people taking care of lots of horses.

My dad’s family fell apart fighting over a piece of timberland when I was ten. I put some of those feelings about family chaos and loss into “The Promise of New Heffe,” except you know, all space opera-y. The song turned out really sweet and comforting:

We’re making progress on Lt. Jordan LeGuin… The techno-focal goggles are tricky to paint, and I think the previous orange filament was a better color — a little lighter, a little more natural.

But we’ve finally figured out making the paw print star logo paintable!

“Little Sandy Starstrong and Her Faithful Robot Dogs” is about a girl, two robot dogs, and an actual dog being dragged around from star to star by her parents, and the song is so, so bubblegum fun.

So, yeah, if you want space opera bubblegum, here ya go:

“The Girl Who Could Hear the Stars Sing” took my breath away when I first heard it. I wanted to capture a piece of how Brian Wilson’s music makes me feel in a space opera story…

The song sounds nothing like his music, but it does sound like how I feel.

I’m told that Bluesky is getting more usable with the addition of the “For You” tab and people being less weird about AI…

So, who all out there is interested in talking about writing, sci-fi, furry, or all three (and doesn’t hate AI)?

Consul Eliana Tor and Cmdr. Bill Wilker look pretty good hanging out together.

Well, Consul Tor’s otter tail turned out perfectly. So exciting!

Prototype of Consul Tor!

Unfortunately, the paint seems to seep into cracks in the plastic… which makes it look smeary with the translucent plastic. So, I’m not sure how to fix that yet, but we’ll figure something out.
