We visited the Vimy Ridge memorial in 1986 on a grad trip.
It was profoundly moving, starkly silent, breeze-less, a beautiful monument in the middle of a field of endless rows of bunkers. We were humbled.

The touchstone of most authoritarian regimes is not the kind of total control that most people feel in their day-to-day lives. It is that the regime is only selectively bound by law, producing constant low-grade anxiety as to whether, how, or against whom power will be exercised.

Holy crap. The DOJ is arguing that the President can unilaterally deport anyone he wants without ANY statutory authority, just on his inherent authority as President over national security.
That is a terrifying claim to make and not one that has ever been recognized before in US history.
