I’ve spent the last 18 months writing about the Roman Empire. In some ways, we’ve progressed immeasurably far in the last 1500 years. But there are still too many things about contemporary politics that I think would have felt all too familiar to them. I persist in my optimism that we can do better.

BLOG An onslaught on western democracy is being mounted by oligarchs, social media influencers & populist politicians, targeting angry young men. The #YimbyLobby is a symptom of this.
We plainly need to find answers - and fast.

Not a Bluesky today it's very chilly in Southend but a very tranquil, like @bsky! In contrast, I just looked on Musks X, many shouty, angry, nasty and aggressive folks creating negativity and hate.
