Bacterial defense systems are fascinating and their characterization has led to to the development of new genetic engineering tools. This is a nice summary of new research.
Just as our bodies have evolved to defend us against bacterial and viral pathogens, bacteria face the same challenges. They must deter their own viruses, chemically compete with other microbes, and deal with challenges from eukaryotic hosts 1/n 🧪

This is a nice, concise description of a classic experiment.
I want to describe the 1952 Hershey-Chase experiment in such a way that it's accessible to anyone. Why?

1. It's an easy experiment to grasp, but elegant in design.
2. It confirmed the role of DNA as the genetic material of life in a definitive way.

This is a great thread explaining the theory underlying a recent Nature paper on Assembly Theory and evolution that’s been getting a lot of discussion.
1. Imagine we land a space probe on one of Jupiters’ moons, take up a sample of material, and find it is full of organic molecules. How can we tell whether those molecules are just randomly assembled goo or the outcome of some evolutionary process taking place there? 🧪

I left my position at a biotech company to do something new, so I’m heartened to see so many science folks on here.

Likewise for some people I followed at the other place to keep with new and interesting music.
