1-800-DOCTORB, the 'B' is for 'bargain!'

Consumes my brain *every* time someone mentions a doctor.
what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

Fun fact: "St. Pau" annexed the township of "L" in 1884, creating the Minnesota capital we know and love today.

Confusingly, the township of "L" was to the east of St. Pau.

Trump: Based on the lie that violent crime is spiraling out of control, I’m going to flood blue cities with federal agents.

Our mayor, fighting back: I'm with you on that first part, but maybe you could just fund more police for me?
If Donald Trump were serious about helping out cities with crime and homelessness, he would ask the Republican Congress to build more housing and fund more police. Instead, he's abusing his power and playing politics with our cities. Minneapolis stands with D.C. and @mayorbowser.bsky.social.

Tuesday, a large, masked group of heavily armed federal agents rolled into Minneapolis with armored vehicles. Why was it so hard for so many to believe Frey and MPD in that moment? Because they have a horrible track record when it comes to "Gathering facts and communicating the truth." 🧵
My commitment to you is simple: I will fight relentlessly to defend our communities from this administration’s efforts to tear them apart. And I will counter their efforts to sow fear and chaos in Minneapolis with facts and evidence, not panic and confusion.

It’s hard to overstate the metaphor of technical debt’s hugely positive impact on software development. Unfortunately, its convoluted current state is hindering decision-making and value creation. The metaphor of technical debt deserves its exalted place in history. It’s also time to move beyond it.
As a metaphor and practice, technical debt is holding us back
Ward Cunningham’s concept of technical debt should forever be held in high esteem. His easy-to-understand metaphor unlocked meaningful discussions on the risks and impact of technical trade-offs in so...

Another thing about Careless People that I haven't seen much talk about: a huge amount of the book is about being a mother while working in an environment like Facebook. It's a takedown of Lean In as much as it is anything else. It should be sparking those conversations, too.

I strived to create a psychologically safe environment when I first became a manager. However, when asked to split teams, I felt I was falling short of this goal. Psychological safety is a helpful guide in those situations, not something to feel bad about.

Splitting teams? Psychological safety is an aid, not an obstacle.
In the Rands Leadership Slack, a member recently asked about resolving the tension between psychological safety and the needs of the business when it came to splitting a team: How do you balance, as...
