Why watch a TV show when you can play Dispatch instead?

I thought this early and often while playing this great, character-rich, story-driven game, where I truly cared about the characters and so I give it a worthy recommendation (check out review on my blog [link in bio]). #VideoGames #Dispatch

What can or should fantasy do as a genre? A little while back I read Jonny Thompson’s “Why Tolkien thought ‘sub-creation’ was the secret to great fantasy and science fiction” and had some thoughts. Check out my blog (proximalpress.com/sub-creation...).

If you’re looking for a story centered on indigenous culture, consider the Dark Winds TV show (detective / crime show set on Diné reservation in the 1970s) or the novel The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich (literary fiction centered on the lives of Chippewa in 1950s fighting termination policies).

What story involving the supernatural should others read? For me it’s The Mermaid from Jeju. Like my novel The Quartermastra, it deals with political intrigue, the supernatural and cultural imperialism, providing insight into the indigenous culture and beliefs on Jeju island in the 20th century.

Fantasy books with important messages to share sometimes seem rare. I like to think my novel The Quartermastra does it. N. K. Jemisin’s The Fifth Season and Robin Hobb’s Ship of Magic both do this.

What are some books you feel do this well? #BookSky #FantasyBooks

I’m just finishing up another reading of Braiding Sweetgrass. It’s such an important book if you care about the environment and want to think about our relationship to the world in a more positive, sustainable way than capitalism and its exploitation model affords.
