As the release of A24’s S/M romance PILLION comes near (Feb. 20, 2026) I wanted to share my favorite sado-masochistic cinematic romance: The Devil is a Woman. Dietrich’s Concha entices all the men around her, but favors Captain Pasqual (Lionel Atwill). Her depraved behavior towards him is stunning.

In 1985, during the Reagan-Moral-Majority purge, Cannon Films released the wackadoo LIFEFORCE based on Colin Wilson’s Space Vampires. Lovely Mathilda May rises from her glass coffin to drain machismo Earthlings of their energy. The story flounders into too many genres but it’s fun. 🧛♀️ 🧟♂️ 💞

The Art Deco Marion Theatre 🎥 in Ocala, FL. Built in 1941, this was the first movie theater I attended. It was 1966. I was 5. Mom took me to see The Sound of Music (1965). Back then it took even a hit movie months to reach the smaller cities. I watched the whole 3 hours.
