📣 new paper 📣
Parallel or variant?

As an Englishman teaching in Germany I was amazed at just how different the German– and English– speaking music theory lexicons (still) are in our ostensibly globalised age.

🚨 Unimportant Terminology Question no.265326 🚨

Membership on here is soaring!

Great time to shore up the terminology. (Or not!)

If on bird 🐦 themed platforms posts were called “tweets” 🐥, does what are they here 🦋?

… “bolts ⚡️from the blue”?

Does anyone else see “WFH”, think it’s “WTF” and have to do a double take? 😳

Looks like everyone posting job advertisements drops character.

Or maybe 🤔 it’s just honest. 3 days sensible work and 2 days of WTF 🤷‍♀️

Hey 👋 music people.

Whose up for filling this place with micro musical analyses?🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️

What rules? Maybe 🤔 half-baked ideas💡only (ie prompt for discussion rather than grandstanding).

How to connect 🤔? Maybe #micromusicalmusing ?

Open to ideas!

An opinion.

1. There are many ways to give a good talk (in 🎵🧪, or any field).
2. “written out in advance“ has always been popular but I’ve never seen it really work.
3. “written out in advance and delivered as a conversion” is becoming more common but is clearly even worse.

Any counters?

Finally tried 🧪🎵 lecturing with no slides.

Still lots of resources etc., simply doing contact time without slides.

Lots of discussion and real time adaptation on the
- white board e.g., shapes, ideas
- device e.g., code

Recommended for interactivity in sessions (obv. depending on the topic etc).

Greetings from ISMIR 2023 (a 🎵🧪 conference) where the “social media” app of choice now seems to be … LinkedIn …

Wonderful to be here and among the 🎵🧪 community.

… though “Blue Sky” is a bit “on the nose” for an app still in its early days, and still a bit light on content.

So here’s to filling it up & here’s a 4’ video intro to my new paper: “Chromatic chords in theory and practice”.
