Times are a changin'. If Washington can add a millionaire income tax, Oregon can certainly add a millionaire sales tax.
Gov. Ferguson says he wants to see a ‘millionaires’ tax’ in Washington state
Washington state hasn’t really had an income tax for nearly a century, but that might be about to change.

25 years ago E Burnside had a 40 mph speed limit and Ankeney St (a block from our house) had a nominal 30 mph limit that drivers ignored trying to dodge Burnside traffic. Today, Burnside is 20 mph through our neighborhood and Ankeney is a bike route with traffic diverted. Things do improve.
Portland traffic deaths on track to drop to lowest level in years, city says
The city recorded 39 traffic deaths — drivers, cyclists and walkers included — through Dec. 22, which would be the third consecutive annual drop. In all, 58 people died in 2024, and 69 died in 2023.

Slogan for the end of the year. About this slogan Svend Brinkman says, "[T]he idea of 'progress' is only a few hundred years old and is, in fact, destructive. Practice repeating yourself. Find role models who have put down roots. Insist on the right to stand still."

Grateful to our friends and family for "keeping the faith" during this year of uncertainty. May hope ever light our darkness. ❤️

Just an observation. Living in Oregon is proof that one can fiercely love their home and fiercely object to the ways we structure our common life. Photo of Mt. Hood for good measure.

I voted against M 110 because it got the cart before the horse, i.e. decriminalizing drugs before adequate addiction recovery resources were in place. Still struggling to get the horse out front, it appears.
Oregon’s Measure 110 programs for substance use treatment have unclear results, audit finds
One major challenge in implementing and evaluating Measure 110 and the programs it created, auditors found, is that it has been revised heavily over the past five years.

I have been stumped all my life by the logic of the anti-tax movement. If we can't bring people together to invest in our shared future, what kind of future will we have? One without roads in Oregon, apparently.
Oregon tax opponents turn in ‘nearly 200,000′ signatures
The submission will likely ensure a gas tax increase approved by lawmakers this year doesn’t take effect.

MWR 2025: Highland Hearth - Portland Revels

Ever since I started treating addiction disorders (beginning with problem gambling) I realized that there was a social context that feeds all addiction. I'm glad we're starting to think, talk, and get angry about economic inequality; if we can tackle this we'll make progress on many other things. /1

Ok...first post. Never tweeted, tiktokked, or tumbled, mostly just FB'd and IG'd to keep up with my people. What do y'all got to offer? Or, more importantly, what can I offer that might make things better for us all? (Photo of my flowering cactus just 'cuz.)
