So grateful for the work that our daughter-in-law Alice McGown is doing at Leave It In The Ground Foundation. Even though she was hospitalized for an E. coli infection this weekend, she is in NYC for this! The World Comes to New York for a Very Different Climate Week www.nytimes.com/2025/09/22/c...

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.
Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause
By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.

The Washington Post now has no Black Opinion columnists - none - at a time when white nationalism is ascendant in our nation. I am grateful to Karen for the truth and fearlessness her work has always shown. Keep shining that light, my friend.

Feel free to continue arguing over the shooter's motives, but please understand that *it doesn't matter*.

There's a organized political movement that plans to suppress, arrest, or kill its political opposition. It it seeking pretexts. Anything will do. If it's not this, it'll be something else.

In all seriousness, Vance’s unhinged diatribe really reminds me that this country is in dire straits. I can’t even wrap my mind around how bad things are and how impossible everything feels. How are we supposed to stay here and write and stay like… alive?

Thank you Victoria Hansen. Your coverage of this issue is profoundly important, and I am grateful. Removing my book Shackles from National Park Service gift shops has frightening implications for all Americans.

In Charleston, a community fights to keep a dorm off burial grounds
Strapped for student housing, the College of Charleston plans to open a new dorm in 2028. But community members say the building site, an historic public burial ground, is already occupied.

Now my first picture book has been flagged for review and potential removal from the National Park Service gift shops. I am shocked and saddened by this intrusive tactic to erase the truth.
Autobiographies and books on slavery at risk for removal from Charleston historical site gift shops
National Park Service staff marked 10 books sold at gift shops in the Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie and Charles Pinckney historic sites for content review.
