you think having 3 repositories and NixOS involved in running a static website is ridiculous? Well, no, you are ridiculous!

atproto is cool because it is fundamentally pragmatic about what it means to be decentralised. decentralised where it matters, simple and scalable where it doesn’t

I installed NixOS for the ~5th time on my personal computer again after using it on servers for a while and this time I may just stick to it. I went the no-desktop path on the installer, added niri and noctalia-shell and it's been sooooo smooth

This is the most succinct version of a post I've been trying to write for two months. When I stop for just a sec to think about the possibilities of The Atmospheric web, I'm a little overwhelmed by how exciting it is. Come build it with us!

I have gotta rant about CloudWatch (AWS) for a moment - we have an alarm setup for 5 out of 5 datapoints where missing datapoints are treated as breaching. Now over the last days a case happened where this should have clearly triggered - we are missing 10 datapoints here. No alarm fired.

This feels true, estimating how long a task will take is the most useless thing we (as an industry) keep doing. It's pure theater and also so draining.

Don't you love it when managers declare multiple things as "the highest priority" and then wonder why not all of them get "enough attention" if tho they set the prio so high?

Do I know anyone experienced in self-hosting Trino? We are migrating from Athena to self hosted Trino at work. If I know someone in this space who would be up to chat let me know.

We are currently at ~1400 vCPU & 2800 GB of RAM for the cluster, to give an idea of scale.

I've gotten this question from a lot of #GameDev:

"How can I, a game developer, make use of ATProto in my games?"

So I wrote an article to address my work in a way that makes more sense for game developers, especially those that don't know (or care) about ATProto.
Building the Future of Games on ATProto | Birbhouse Games
Game platforms hold too much power over developers. We want to change that by decentralizing games with ATProto — devs own their data, players own their progress, and no payment processor can take it ...

Well, now I started building my own solution for this, gathering data from the GitLab API into TimescaleDB which we can then query from Grafana.
Anyone I know using self hosted Gitlab? How do you monitor pipelines performance? The build in analytics suck and I can't find a good solution. The api seems to have all the data so it shouldn't be that hard but maybe I am missing something

I found this youtube channel where a bunch of students document how they are building a 3d printing startup (open-source) and it's so cool - they are even from the city where studied myself. Beware, the videos are a mix of German and English.
