I met one of my heroes, @philweiser.bsky.social on one of the worst days. I'm thankful AG Weiser acknowledged Alex and Renee first today. RIP Alex Pretti. 😔

I won an award for advocacy last year. Can I now add "award winning advocate" to my "resume"? (I don't have a resume lol)

Community organizing meetings are back in full swing and I'm here to report that our charitable food systems helpers aren't any less pissed than before the holiday and they're ready to fight back. In Denver we believe food is a human right & deserves funding. Mayor Mike is about to learn who I am.

I was taught in freshman political science back in 2001 that we don't go to war with countries that have McDonald's ("Golden Arches Theory of Conflict Prevention).

Venezuela has McDonald's.

Also doesn't Piggy have a lifetime contact with McDonald's?

Looks like capitalism fails again.

I was interviewed for a Rolling Stone article last month about SNAP. Megan does a great job of summarizing my story of how I became homeless during COVID and why I'm struggling to get out of poverty (expensive meds/health insurance).

SNAP nightmare is over, the trauma from it remains with helpers & the families affected. Please don't stop donating $, food & time to your local pantries, hunger is still at an all time high. We received this today when we picked up the pantry order. I wish I could share it with all of the helpers.

Polis' net worth is $300 million+ & he's asking us to drop off food to a mansion owned by the state. He may be unaware that his newsletter goes out to everyone, even SNAP recipients on his mailing list. He is unable to read a room because he's not in the room with us. He is completely out of touch.

“I liken it to extending a lease,” Crank said. “If you’re at the end of your lease and you still haven’t moved out, but your landlord says, ‘Well, I wouldn’t mind getting another month of rent,’ you extend the lease for a month. You don’t try and add things into the existing lease.”--Rep. Jeff Crank

I've emailed with a few Denver City Council and there is interest in Denver to follow JeffCo if the shutdown gets extended. JeffCo, working with food pantries, tracks data to allocate resources where they are most needed. This will be useful even after the crisis & can be replicated statewide.

Asked if the shutdown was worth it, Sen. John Hickenlooper replied, “Yeah, I think so.”

He argued that Democrats forced people to “pay attention” to the fact that healthcare affordability is a “traumatic, in many cases, life or death situation all over this country.”

Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) will start loading payments onto (EBT) cards and SNAP participants will begin to see payments on their EBT cards as early as Saturday, November 8. All SNAP participants can expect their full payments to be available over the next few days.

Last week during the county meeting with food pantries, we had 1 person breakdown. This week we had 3. Our helpers are really hurting out here while they try to feed people. We're doing our very best, I promise. Some of us pick up food in our own vehicles for our pantries, like we do every Fri.

On Thursday members of the JBC asked "since we're meeting with Polis tomorrow, can we ask him to increase the amount of funds to help with SNAP cuts. The answer was no, because the proposal can't be amended. Looks like the answer is no because he won't be there.
November 1, 2025 at 3:24 PM
When SNAP gets "turned on" again it will take 10 days to get loaded onto EBT cards.

SNAP benefits must continue despite shutdown, judge tells Trump administration share.google/ucbdQk9D2QKq...

The lawyer, Tyler Becker, also argued it was the administration's discretion whether to use $6 billion in contingency funds already set aside by Congress to continue issuing SNAP benefits.

I was just on a call with pantries in our Denver precinct & fights are already being reported. @coloradogovernor.bsky.social Polis please declare a state of emergency so county emergency management can coordinate logistics with food pantries. Our helpers are already hurting, please help.
October 30, 2025 at 8:20 PM
At the JBC meeting Senator Kirkmeyer wanted to get food pantries $50 million, from emergency not general funds and wants the Governor to declare a state of emergency so that county emergency management can assist with logistics.

But the proposal couldn't be changed. The $10 million passed.
