In the #Elwha, #salmon are more than #fish, they’re part of culture, history, and identity. For the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, they hold deep meaning in community and tradition.

With the dams gone, Chinook are returning after more than a century; a powerful reminder of resilience and renewal.

Love the monitoring of the Elwha 🐟 and the opportune to talk to the local sierra club and talk about the history of the dam removal and nearshore ecosystems

The Ecuadorian cloud forest is one of the most special places on earth ❤️
Carlos Zorrilla has been living in an Ecuadorian cloud forest since the 1970s, and his last 30 years there have been spent fighting mining companies seeking to extract its large copper deposits.

He and his community have been successful, but often at great personal risk, he tells our podcast:

I second this 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
This sort of "here is how we know" article, in which the evidence is thoroughly summarized and clearly explained and common counter-arguments are calmly debunked with evidence, is probably something we should be doing a lot more of.

Some people are not persuadable. Many are.

Vaccines do not cause autism. You’ve almost certainly read that before — but often without a full explanation of how we know it to be true. Here's how we know.

A provision ‘hidden’ in the budget bill that passed, seeks to limit the ability of courts from enforcing their orders. The provision ‘would make most existing injunctions…unenforceable
Without the contempt power, judicial orders are meaningless and can be ignored.

'Hidden' provision in Trump's big bill could disarm US Supreme Court
The provision would bar courts from enforcing contempt citations for violations of injunctions or temporary restraining orders unless a bond has been paid.

This is devastating to so many different research areas and our ability to move forward. There is a brain drain happening and the US will no longer be a leader in science and innovation
Unidata is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting software such as:

NetCDF4
MetPy
LDM
AWIPS2 Public version
GEMPAK
THREDDS

They also support realtime data access via a public EDEX server, THREDDS, and more.
Due to the current gap in funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program is pausing most operations effective 12 May 2025. Nearly all staff will be furloughed until funds from our existing NSF grant become available. For more information, see buff.ly/d2TC1Oy

CONFLICT OF INTEREST !!!
Musk is rapidly pushing forward the privatization of space and satellite operations that have long been managed by the NOAA. DOGE has acquired confidential data from NOAA’s competitors—an alarming development that has further cemented SpaceX’s dominance in the space and satellite industry.
