I’d add, as far as Democrats’ attempts to reach the “working class,” is to consider geography as another aspect of its segmentation. We’re a huge country with many diverse local histories and ways of life.

“Illinoise,” the new dance/musical/opera by Sufjan Stevens (music), Justin Peck (choreography), and Jackie Sibblies Drury is opening tonight. Get tickets while you can, I don’t think they’re gonna last.

If you’re in NYC, and free on Tues or Weds night, you may be able to snag tickets to the last NYC Ballet performances of Alexei Ratmansky’s “Solitude,” a moving meditation on his hometown, Ukraine. He dedicates it to the children there, the victims of war. Beautiful dancing. Music by Mahler.

“The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism” opens tomorrow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Gobsmacking in breadth, enjoyable and insightful. Legendary Black artists, new discoveries, and even a few Matisses that are evidence of the period’s influence abroad.
