BBC trainer, not journalist — I train BBC staff (& others) how to use phones for newsgathering.
Posts are on mobile journalism, apps, kit, The Wedding Present & Arsenal.
My views ≠ BBC. RT = worth reading. Like = read later. Sharing apps ≠ endorse.
When dictation goes wrong.
It was meant to be “pause button” 😬🙄

If I’m on Microsoft Co-pilot to use ChatGPT, is it really necessary for the text to be headed “AI generated”?
Are there honestly people who’ll use the system and not be aware of that?

Here’s a linguistic quirk:
Last night on the TV10 on BBC1, it was the final; yet just now on the TV6 it was the finale.
Do they mean different things? Which do you prefer?

Didn’t the first week of November used to be cold..?

Obviously, there are worse things to be worried about right now - but boy is it dispiriting to see UK based retailers promoting *early* Black Friday deals.

Trying my 7 & 11 year old kids on this.

I’ll let you know what they thought of it in about 28 minutes.

All the guys *actually* called Andrew Windsor have long been dreading this moment.

I’m sure it’ll win out in the long run but Meta’s AI just took away a click I would otherwise have given to a page on Facebook.
This was a good “curiosity gap” from Secret London, omitting the name of the museum… rather undermined by the suggested questions from Meta AI.

Neat trick - use the zoom on the iPhone 17 pro to help tell you the time.

I appear to be in Beethoven Fifth’s room.

So who ELSE knew that Italians call Munich “Monaco of Bavaria”?
Can any Italians verify that…?

Curious that the Met Office’s one-icon weather summary for Thursday is “dark cloud & lots of rain” when the detailed forecast says that’ll happen 0100-0400 and the rest of Thursday looks to be quite nice.

Random discovery of the day.
The boundary of Kansas City, Missouri has real echoes of Marge Simpson.

With all ~this~ going on in the world <gesturing wildly>, I don’t know whether to be pleased or confused that the top story as shown on Google Chrome is about the temporary closure of a McDonalds somewhere in Sussex.

I don’t take out many subscriptions so I don’t know how common this is…but this seems a little dodgy “dark pattern” from Apple?
Under the guise of receiving fewer emails, the happy financial by-product for Apple would be me not getting a reminder about cancelling my subscription. 🤨

I wonder what the Venn diagram is of “people who hate the idea of football matches from European leagues being played outside Europe” and “people who love that the Grand Sumo Tournament is taking place in London and not Tokyo”?

A little reward for submitting a bug report for iOS 26.1 beta 2

Goodbye (Mr) Clips.

I haven’t opened it let alone used it in years but Apple have given up on their short-form video editing app.

My elderly mother asked me to come over and help sort out problems with her iPhone and “other technical issues”
This one made me laugh.

Obviously the wider ramifications of global warming are broadly not good, but it’s currently 18°c and sunny on the south coast of England. On October 8th.

Obviously the wider ramifications of global warming are broadly not good, but it’s currently 18°c and sunny on the south coast of England and it’s lovely.

The beta of iOS 26.1 has a useful extra feature for mojo - but I’ve already sent feedback to Apple about it.
In the control centre there’s a new Audio Input slider (gain control) for external mics.
But if volume & brightness are up high, it’s very hard to see and therefore use properly.

One for the BBC’s crack pronunciation unit here, I think.
