Zaanse Schans windmill, up close and personal.

While heading to Zaanse Schans, my partner and I made a brief (and accidental) stop in Zaandam. This building is a hotel very near the train station. It looks so cool!

I went to 14 different museums while in Amsterdam. Tell me you like art and history without telling me you like art and history, amiright?!?!

Just had a 20hr day yesterday traveling home from Amsterdam (hence the bike posts), and my van broke down 20mins away from home. So instead of decompressing from my travel today, I’m waiting hours for a tow truck. 🫠

And back to the bike thing…I feel like riding a bike would be like doing a cartwheel. I can imagine it in my head, but I fear if I try it, I will definitely hurt myself.

Just so you know, Dutch apple pie is NOT the same thing as a Dutch appeltaart. And yes, one is better than the other. I’ll let you guess which it is.

Is riding a bike actually like riding a bike? In that even if it’s been 20 yrs, you can just jump on and do it?

My kids are making me watch Gravity Falls, and I am distracted by this part of the intro every episode. The toes are backwards on the bigger print.

What I wouldn’t give for an Oops! All Yolks carton of eggs.

We weren’t sure what this storm would actually bring. We got a little bit of ice. More rain coming, but the temp won’t drop until tonight.
January 25, 2026 at 3:22 PM
Are the empty shelves leading up to a storm bc of panic buying or bc people that usually order/eat out are having to plan for eating at home? (Prob both. But I’m curious about the actual stats.)

Made a tatertot hotdish for dinner last night and almost felt patriotic.

Desperately clinging onto the dregs of a long weekend. I’m so tired, but I know once I go to sleep, it’ll be over.

Kroger Wrapped (aka Yearly Checkout) is apparently a thing now? Turns out I bought a lot of specialty cheese this past year.

A mystery is afoot! Somebody rearranged the silverware drawer in my house. But nobody is owning up to it.

My partner and 17 year old were told to “quiet down” while at a Waffle House this morning. They were playing chess.

I feel so stressed that even my dissociation is in overdrive. I took 2 different impromptu naps today.

We had a fog advisory this morning. This is the epitome of winter in the South.

My partner got us a new toaster for Christmas. But I’m still burning everything, because I haven’t learned to dial in the controls yet.

I may have a pet named after a Spirited Away character, but Howl’s Moving Castle is my favorite Miyazaki movie.

New year, new anxieties

Advertising got me. I subscribed to the History Hit app so I can watch medieval history documentaries. No regrets.

Windows open bc it’s 70° out and I was baking and cooking all day, and I heard a neighbor’s smoke detector going off.

I hear ya, good neighbor. That’s just the dinner bell.

Got a Dubai chocolate dessert from Costco that came in a little glass cup. And I’m more excited about the cup than the dessert.
