In 1944 the State Museum at Majdanek was created on the former grounds of the German concentration camp in Lublin. Today we also run two braches on the former death camps grounds: Museums and Memorials in Bełżec and Sobibór. We are the world's first Holocaust memorial. We are a Triad of Remembrance.
26.11.1975|The trial of 17 #Majdanek garrison members began in Düsseldorf. The defendants included: 📷Hermine Braunsteiner, Hildegard Lächert, Hermann Hackmann, Emil Laurich, Heinz Villain, Arnold Strippel, Wilhelm Reinartz, and Heinrich Groffmann. The verdict took years and was announced in 1981.

25.11.1924|Hella Weiss-Felenbaum was born in Lublin. In December 1942 she was transferred from the Staw-Nowosiółki labor camp to SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor. She worked in the sorting barrack and the camp garden. Hella escaped during the uprising on 14.10.1943, joined the partisans and survived WWII.

24.11.1904|Malka Ester Domb was born in Ulanów. She moved to Cologne and then to Antwerp. Her family was displaced to the Lublin district and returned to Ulanów over time. From there Malka and her relatives were deported to SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered.📷Malka with her daughters and sister.

21.11.1941|Polish Jew Jakub Josef Gutglik perished at #Majdanek. He was among the prisoners forced to erect the first elements of the camp infrastructure. His death is confirmed by a preserved list of deceased Jewish labourers compiled by the SS construction office in Lublin.

21.11.1915|Polish man Stanisław Zawiśliński was born in Kąty. He was a corporal cadet of the Polish army. He was detained at #Majdanek from January 1943 as prisoner no. 12340. In late March 1943 Stanisław was transferred to KL Flossenbürg, but he died during the transport.

06.11.1942|Several thousand Jews were deported from the ghetto in Piaski to the German Nazi death SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor. Among them there was Kurt Ticho (Thomas) the only Czech Jewish survivor of Sobibór. He worked in the camp sorting facility and took part in the prisoners’ uprising.

05.11.1943|The SS began destroying the evidence of operation ‘Erntefest’. A group of Soviet POWs detained at #Majdanek systematically uncovered the mass graves in execution ditches and burned the bodies. The concealment process was supervised by the chief of the camp crematoria Erich Muhsfeldt.

03.11.1943|Operation “Erntefest”: German SS, police and Sonderdienst functionaries murdered over 18,000 Jewish prisoners of #Majdanek and labour camps in Lublin. Victims were concentrated at field V, left their clothes, and were murdered in trenches dug near the camp crematorium.

31.10.2015|Tomasz (Toivi) Blatt, Polish Jewish man and #Holocaust survivor from Izbica, passed away in Santa Barbara, California. He was one of the prominent voices promoting the knowledge about the German Nazi extermination camp in #Sobibór. 📷T. Blatt guiding a group in Sobibór.

31.10.1910|Polish woman Katarzyna Kapuśniak was born. She lived in the Rogale settlement (Lublin region). The Germans arrested her family under suspicion of aiding partisans and fugitives. At #Majdanek from 06.07.1943. Katarzyna was released a month later and survived the war.

30.10.1909|Polish woman Genowefa Kostecka (née Willmann) was born. She was a teacher engaged in underground education during the war. The Germans arrested her in July 1943. From late August at #Majdanek as prisoner no. 1497. In April 1944 Genowefa was transferred to KL Ravensbrück. She survived.

29.10.1942|Pole Mieczysław Hajziuk was arrested by the Gestapo agents in Biała Podlaska. He was later deported to #Majdanek and detained at field II. Mieczysław worked in the sewer construction kommando. He was released from the camp in April 1943.

28.10.1943| Henri Barbedienne, a French man from Paris, #Majdanek prisoner no. 17339, died in the camp infirmary.

28.10.1942| #Holocaust: ca. 4500 Jews were deported from the Kraków ghetto to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. Among them there was Henryk Edelist, son of Maria and Jakób. He was 15 years old.

23.10.1942| #Holocaust: 3459 Jews from Drohobycz (Drohobych), Borysław (Boryslav), Stryj (Stryi) and Sambor (Sambir) in the Galicia District were deported to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec.

22.10.1942| #Holocaust: Around 2,000 Jews were deported from Turka near Lviv (Galicia District) to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered in the gas chambers.

22.10.1943|Polish resistance member Helena Pawluk was arrested by the Germans and detained at #Majdanek as inmate no. 1661. She had organised an escape of a Jewish prisoner-doctor Naum Pryłucki. 22.10.1942| #Holocaust: around 1,300 Jews from Szczebrzeszyn and Zwierzyniec (Lublin District) were deported from the train station in Szczebrzeszyn to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. Among those victims there was a local dentist named Borensztajn and her two daughters.

21.10.1942| #Holocaust: Around 4,000 Jews were deported from Zbaraż (Zbarazh) and Skałat (Skálat) in the Galicia District to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered upon arrival.

14.10.1942|Polish woman Maria Adamiec and her husband were arrested by the Germans at their home in Janowice. They were helping escaped Soviet POWs hiding in a nearby forest. Maria was deported to #Majdanek and registered as prisoner no. 38. She survived. Her husband perished in #Auschwitz.

14.10.1943| Prisoner uprising in the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor Thanks to the plan developed by Lejba Felhendler and Alexander Pechersky, the inmates secretly killed 9 SS-men and 2 guards. Then they breached the camp’s barbed wire fences and ran.

10.10.1942|Germans arrested the Polish man Franciszek Wiórkiewicz. He was taken to #Majdanek, registered as prisoner no. 17249 and worked at the sewer system construction. Franciszek was released from the camp in December but was later deported to #Auschwitz as a forced labourer. He survived.

10.10.1942|The Germans held mass arrests in the Dziesiąta village located near Lublin. Several hundred Poles were rounded-up and detained at #Majdanek as well as in the labour camp in Lublin's Krochmalna Street. Among them there were Alina Zaborek and Jerzy Rajkewicz (Majdanek prisoner. no 17259).

02.10.1884|Józef Henryk Sandauer was born in Sambor. He graduated from the Jan Kazimierz university in Lwów and became a lawyer. He married Franciszka Czoban and the couple had a son – Feliks. Józef Sandauer was deported to SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec in August 1942. #Holocaust

02.10.1942|Deportation from Działoszyce and Miechów: ca. 500 Jews were killed on site; up to 3,000 others were deported to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. Among them there were Elimeloch and Raizla-Bela Klainman with their children Debora, Rut, Mojżesz.
