In 1944 the State Museum at Majdanek was created on the former grounds of the German concentration camp in Lublin. Today we also run two braches on the former death camps grounds: Museums and Memorials in Bełżec and Sobibór. We are the world's first Holocaust memorial. We are a Triad of Remembrance.
January 1942|Christian Wirth brought the first Trawnikimänner to the German Nazi death camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. At first they were tasked with digging mass graves and masking the camp during its construction. Later they worked as sentry guards and escorted the victims into the gas chambers.

20.01.1943|Stanisław Rozwałka, a Polish farmer from Siedliska died at #Majdanek. He was imprisoned at the camp in the autumn of 1942 because his children carelessly set a grain warehouse on fire. He was registered as prisoner no. 7573.

20.01.1942|During the Wannsee conference 15 key figures of Nazi Germany apparatus drew plans for the implementation of the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question”. Two months later operation “Reinhardt” began with the deportation of Jews from Lublin and Lviv to SS-Sonderkommando Belzec death camp.

19.01.1990|Ukrainian Jew Alexander Pechersky passed away in Rostov-on-Don. As a Red Army lieutenant he was captured, held as a POW, and deported to the #Sobibor extermination camp in September 1943. He was picked for work during selection and later co-led the prisoner uprising on 14 October 1943.

16.01.1944|French prisoner François Letterrier died at the infirmary of the #Majdanek concentration camp. He worked as a clerk in Paris and was sent to KL Lublin in late 1943 in one of the so-called transports of the sick. According to the camp records, François died of “blood circulation failure”.

15.01.1943|Jadwiga Ankiewicz was arrested in an enormous round-up that the Germans held in the streets of Warsaw. She was taken to the Gestapo Pawiak prison. Two days later Jadwiga was deported to #Majdanek. She was just sixteen at that time.

13.01.1942|Polish woman Zofia Filakowska was arrested as a resistance member in Warsaw. She was detained at the Gestapo Pawiak prison and deported to #Majdanek in early 1943. She worked in the camp laundry, sewing workshop, and gardening kommando. In July 1943 she was transferred to KL Ravensbrück.

12.01.1940|SS unit dispatched from Lublin was sent to the nearby city of Chełm. That day they murdered all 440 patients of the local psychiatric hospital including 128 women and 18 children. It was one of the operations conducted in the General Government within the "T4" forced euthanasia programme.

08.01.1943|First large transport of Polish political prisoners arrived at #Majdanek. 145 women and 571 men were deported from the Gestapo prisons in Radom, Piotrków Trybunalski, Częstochowa, Kielce and Skarżysko-Kamienna. Camp SS-men replaced their names with numbers engraved on metal tags.

07.01.1943|Polish woman Barbara Wojtowicz-Natanson, Grey Ranks and Home Army Soldier working for the resistance intelligence, was arrested by the Germans in Warsaw and taken to Pawiak prison. At #Majdanek from 18.01.1943 as inmate no. 4716, later in Ravensbrück and Buchenwald. She survived.

07.01.1910|Jew Chaskiel Menche was born in Koło. During WWII he went through the Lublin and Izbica ghettos, and was deported to #Sobibór in June 1942. Selected for labour he worked in the camp’s sewing workshop. Chaskiel escaped during the uprising, survived the #Holocaust and settled in Australia.

05.01.1943|Polish man Bolesław Soczyński perished in the #Majdanek concentration camp. He was born on 25 October 1901 in Opole and worked as a farmer. The Germans arrested him as a hostage in retaliation for partisan activity. He was deported to KL Lublin in early November 1942.

19.12.1942|The Germans arrested the Polish actress Maria Malicka and detained her at the Gestapo Pawiak prison in Warsaw. At #Majdanek from 17 January 1943 and she worked in the Gärtnerei kommando. On 19 April 1944 Maria was transferred to Ravensbrück. She survived.

18.12.1942|The Germans arrested Antoni Wolf, captain of the Polish Army, and took him to the Gestapo Pawiak prison. In January 1943 he was deported to #Majdanek, registered as prisoner no. 1999 and placed at field III. In April 1944 he was transferred to KL Gross-Rosen. Antoni survived.

17.12.1942|Gestapo arrested Władysław Smereczyński, defender of Poland in 1939, commander of the Home Army in the Lwów district. He was deported to #Majdanek and as prisoner no. 2019 took command of the in camp resistance. Only he survived WWII. His wife perished in #Auschwitz, their son in Gusen.

15.12.1942|Zofia Chlewicka was arrested in Warsaw for having a Home Amy letter drop point in her apartment. She was first detained at the Pawiak prison and then deported to #Majdanek on 17.01.1943. Zofia worked in the sanitary column of the camp infirmary in the women's section. She survived.

In December 1943 #Majdanek started operating as Genesungslager, a concentration point for the sick prisoners transferred from other camps. Two large transports of over 1100 ill and emaciated prisoners sent from KL Sachsenhausen and #Auschwitz arrived on 12-13.12.1943.

12.12.1942|Germans arrested Tadeusz Ogrodowczyk in Warsaw and placed him in the Pawiak prison. At #Majdanek from 17 January 1943 as inmate no. 3693. In April 1944 he was transferred in an evacuation transport to KL Gross-Rosen. He survived.

11.12.1942|Germans arrested Irena Pełka in Warsaw and put her in the Pawiak prison. At #Majdanek as prisoner no. 4655 from January 1943. She worked in the Gärtnerei kommando. In April 1944 Irena was transferred to Ravensbrück and then to its Leipzig sub-camp. She survived.

10.12.1926|Sara Goldbaum was born in Lublin. She was detained in the Podzamcze ghetto together with her parents: Srul and Chaja. The Goldbaums were deported during the ghetto liquidation in spring 1942 and murdered in the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec.

10.12.1908|Icchak Lichtman was born in Żółkiewka. He was deported to the SS-Sonderkommando #Sobibor extermination camp in May 1942. He was selected for labour and worked as a shoemaker. Icchak escaped during the prisoner uprising, survived the #Holocaust and settled in Israel after the war.

05.12.1942|Around 3,000 Jews were deported from Przemyślany (Peremyshliany) in the Galicia District to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec. The transport also included some people who had been herded in from Gliniany (Hlyniany) several days earlier. #Holocaust

05.12.1878|Bezalel Elisza Wertheimer was born in Gorlice. With his wife Gusta (Engländer) they had 3 children: Helena, Henryka, Sabina. Wertheimers were deported from the Kraków ghetto to SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered in the gas chambers in late October 1942.📷Bezalel, Gusta, Sabina, 1938.

04.12.1942| #Holocaust: During the 1942 Hanukkah between 1,000 and 1,200 Jews were deported from Brzeżany (Berezhany) to the German Nazi extermination camp SS-Sonderkommando #Belzec and murdered in the gas chambers.
