#14: The global numbers are harder to find, but I know there are teens, just like I was, in every country in the world who are #ChronicallyIll and want to see someone like them represented in #YaFantasy. Even if it’s not exactly the same, some experiences are shared, right?? #RepresentationMatters

I'm Indie Publishing Because #13: According to the CDC, approximately 27% of children in the U.S. have a chronic condition, and 1 in 15 have multiple chronic conditions. And I’ve never seen a #YaFantasy where the main character has multiple chronic conditions like I do 🥺. Have you?? #ChronicIllness

I'm Indie Publishing A Little Less Invisible Because #12: Sometimes disabilities are dynamic. They change day to day. And when you're being hunted by the fae they change HOURLY. 😬 #YAFantasy #Dis #SpoonieLife #OwnVoices

I'm Indie Publishing Because #8: I read another YA fantasy book where the only #ChronicallyIll person is the villain and they do terrible things to force the magic-wielding hero to heal them (I won't say which book but 😭). Whyyyyy??? And I used to love this book too. 😭x 10000

#7: Because sometimes it takes YEARS to get diagnosed and I’ve never seen that struggle represented in the #YaFantasy space 🤔 (And I’m not talking some mysterious fantasy illness. I’m talking about a very real, absolutely-happens-in-real-life illness). Have you??

#6: According to the National Library of Medicine, around 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. have a #ChronicIllness or condition but despite some (really amazing!) books with chronically ill main characters being trad published, there’s not nearly enough out there represent all conditions or 20% of U.S. kids 🥺

I'm Indie Publishing Because #4: When I was in high school, I'd have traded every book I owned in a back-alley fae bargain for one with cursed, unremovable sticker goo in the middle of the cover to find a chronically ill main character in a YA fantasy series like me. #NotKidding #StillMight 😬

I'm Indie Publishing Because #3: Sometimes, it's hard to tell if you’re feeling regular, chronically ill out of breath, or dang that boy is cute & making eye contact out of breath, or if it’s more like you need to lie down and/or consult a hospital out of breath 😅 Why doesn't that happen in books??
