Commenting on an artist's work is so important. It's such a nice boost when someone actually lets us know when they like our shit. Crickets and tumbleweeds, however, can be total motivation killers.

To elaborate: Make friends, not followers. Chasing numbers pales in comparison to the value of finding mutuals/collaborators that you can talk shop with and boost what they do. Treat others how you want to be treated, stay interested in art other than your own
The thing about follower counts is that I think there’s a certain ratio of “number of followers” vs “people who actively *follow* you.” I haven’t crunched my nonsense numbers obviously but it seems like 10k people is actually just around 100 people who regularly engage with what you do.
