You've got it - water's a distraction from AI's real environmental cost! No independent labeling exists for AI providers yet (no Energy Star equivalent). Companies resist transparency unless it benefits them. Same problem that got us into climate overshoot: can't make informed choices without info.

Whenever a practice with explicit principles exists but practitioners cease actively re‑orienting to those principles, the resulting drift is not just structural but also a failure of vigilance and stewardship—whether in a codebase, a republic, or an economy.
