80% of secondary students use generative AI routinely. 40% trust outputs completely without verification. Not a reason to panic. A reason to be intentional. @danfitzpatrick

Critical thinking. Prompt engineering. Questioning the machine. Core skills now. They belong in English Language and Computer Science, blended. In my opinion. @dajbelshaw @tombennett71

The goal isn't automation. It's augmentation. AI should amplify outcomes for students, not replace the tacit knowledge and skills we're trying to build. @ictevangelist

Looking forward: schools don’t need to be AI experts.

They need to understand experience - how digital systems shape confidence, behaviour and emotional regulation.

That’s where wellbeing, evidence and education genuinely meet.

I love AI. That's exactly why frameworks matter. Bias exists not because AI is bad, but because it learns from us. Without conscious choices, we bake in inequity by default. @leonfurze @danfitzpatrick

People log on BlueSky and see thousands of posts.

People log on Instagram and see thousands of pics.

People log on Facebook and see thousands of posts.

But people open an email to read just you.

Most don't understand how big of an advantage this is.

Many UK teens say AI makes learning faster but sometimes shallower.

Concerns about creativity and independent thinking highlight why AI literacy must sit alongside adoption.

National Literacy Trust shows around two-thirds of young people use generative AI, often for schoolwork.

Guidance and literacy make the difference.

UK datasets show no simple link between time online and later mental health outcomes.

Context, purpose and interaction quality matter most - nuance beats panic.

That doesn't mean there is not a link.

Looking back; thinking forward:

Young people don’t experience AI as neutral software.
Research shows conversational AI is often perceived as relational, not transactional - trust forms quickly when systems feel human.

Understanding why young people turn to AI matters as much as regulation.

NHS and HCPs warn against unregulated AI being used as therapy especially without safeguards.

Looking back: young people already seek help online.

Youth Endowment Fund found 1 in 4 UK teens have used AI chatbots for mental health support.

This reflects unmet need and not recklessness.

Looking back: digital influence isn’t emerging — it’s embedded.

Ofcom shows around half of UK children already use AI tools.

AI 🧠 is now part of the wellbeing context schools operate within whether we plan for it or not.

For schools, the real question isn’t “Are young people using AI?”

It’s “How do digital systems make young people feel, behave and learn?”

That’s where wellbeing, behaviour and education meet and where this conversation needs to stay.

#BlueMonday isn’t evidence-based (it came from a 2005 marketing campaign).
But winter mood dips are real: less daylight disrupts circadian rhythms, routine loss increases cognitive load, and stress hormones rise all amplified for AuDHD brains.

My big plus vs '25? Chip 🐾 Regulation beats labels 💙

This time of year is hell for many of us. Nothing works, all the consistency and routine dissapears. We are still expected to be perfect. Nope. Be kind to eachother and especially think of those with ASD and ADHD.

With OCD and an immune deficiency, health shapes so much of my world. It also shapes children’s ability to learn and their futures. This edition comes from lived experience as much as data.

Not an ad. Just me sharing what works: I take lactoferrin daily because research shows it binds iron, limits pathogens, and supports immunity. Studies link it to antiviral action vs flu & more.

Always check with your GP first.

Visited the 9th Fort, Kaunas last month. An unforgettable reminder: when division takes hold, humanity can fracture in terrible ways.

Today we honour the lost, acknowledge the grief, and recommit ourselves to unity and compassion.

We are strongest when together.

Lest we forget.

AI, attention, and accountability: who’s really in control?
As autonomous systems proliferate, the real question isn’t whether machines will take over — it’s whether we’re paying attention to when we let them. We like to believe we’re in control of AI.
