Love’s #embers smolder
and you think they’ll stay
but as you get older
they grow colder
till they’re gone one day.

Beth hated the bride almost as much as she loved the groom. He loved her as a best friend and asked her to be a groomsman. She wore the #cummerbund as if it were a bandeau. Her support wasn't an endorsement, it was an endowment.

I'm a terrible speller. When writing, I love doing a voice activated Google search on my phone for the word. Easy peasy.

Writing advice I heard.

Throw away your first two manuscripts. Third time's a charm. And, if you want to improve your MS, don't edit, rewrite from scratch.

Both were fools. I've grown since then. I get it now. Maybe I'm ready. Maybe I'm still the fool. Time is my friend. Not so, patience.

“Don’t worry, my heart will go on.”
Well, good for you.
But your answer will not suffice
as you’re willing to let me
die in the ice.
I’m not willing to make
such a sacrifice.

Psithurism is the sound trees make.
Each species is different.
No creak, groan or rustle is the same.
Night after night, I listen
to their secrets
never expecting they
would speak my name.

The freedom Americans
praised, unabashed
has been torn apart
by callous brass.
So now we’re stuck
with this morass.

When I was a new mom, I was so tired that if I turned my head too fast, I would get the spins. I would see things that weren’t there. The only noise I couldn’t sleep through was the sound of my baby’s cry.

Oh, I guess I’m not exaggerating. How's this-- even my yawns had yawns.

I am the moon.
They say I’m a satellite
but I don’t bounce back
something as small as data.
I’m better than that.
I make the tides turn
and the lovers swoon

It was just a plank
worn and rough
but it was enough.

I started at the beach
then grew as I went along
My shadow was long.
The mountains loomed large
and I struggled to climb
only to find I had to leave
something behind.
Rain.

The low rumble assured me
he was still on the job.
That no matter how much
his eyes were closed,
he was still there,
protecting the home.
Protecting me.
Beware the growl.

The notes swirled
around the strings
creating a world
where everything
was enveloped
into a moment
everyone wished
was real.
Old men wept.
Babies slept.
Even dreams saw
the light of day.

What light by yonder window breaks?
It’s facing east.
Oh, the sun!
Please, some
hair of the dog,
a Blue Moon.

Every day the
family gathers
and eats
what I created.
“How was your day?”

It’s ordinary.
Expected.
Comforting.

I wear an apron,
not a cape.
I fight hunger
and the pangs
of loneliness.

My favorite utensils
a question and
a smile.

I touch the next tooth
and the next.
Round and round we go
until finally we’re let go.
Where every so dutifully
I touch those teeth again
We are the gears helping
the clock keep time
only until the next wind.

I am planting in the garden
whispering to the plants as
I put them in the ground.
“You’re going to like it here.
You're so beautiful.”
My old knees groaned their
displeasure.
They never did before.
And now I know why my MIL
had me plant her annuals
with a whisper of her own.

He gobbled everything in sight.
Pastries, meat, and bread,
oh, God, the bread
which he ate by the handful
ripping through the crust.
Never mind the children
With their faces pressed
against the window.

After dropping off the #luggage, my husband said he had something to tell me. He waited until we were in our cramped seats next to a stranger.
"I'm leaving you."
Tired of it always being my fault, I refused to ask why. That was baggage I wasn't about to claim.
