19 Dec 2025 – With CAREC support, MAA Burundi’s WHO-backed mobile clinic performed ultrasounds for 25 high-risk pregnant women among 300+ at the site. 👩‍⚕️ The team is working tirelessly to ensure timely care for mothers and babies.

Since Feb 2025, WHO-supported mobile clinic by The Midwife in Action’s Association – Vyara Uheke operates at Cishemere transit site, under the Cibitoke Health District.

From the beginning of 2025, approximately 65,000 people have fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo into Burundi. Here, midwives are often first responders to gender-based violence, providing medical, psychological, and community support to survivors.

In October, ICM brought together midwives’ associations (MAs) from five countries to pilot the first Regional Advocacy Incubator. The Incubator ensures that national midwives’ associations are equipped to drive advocacy, amplify women and midwives’ voices, and connect local priorities to global agendas at the right time.

Some days, our midwives conduct home visits within the Cishemere transit site to sensitize and listen to refugees, as part of the WHO Burundi mobile clinic implemented by MAA Burundi — ensuring that everyone in need can access the services available at the clinic. 💙
