To my new friends, heyyy! I’m Tracy, an instructional designer & PhD student!

I recently started birding to combat burnout and I’ve loved every second! When I’m not working/writing, I’m out exploring with my husband and our dogs… or editing countless bird photos 🤣

A photo of me taking a backstage tour of Disney’s Animal Kingdom! I’m standing on a bridge over the crocodiles, with lots of harnesses and gear on! A photo of me standing on the grassy cliffs at Bempton. I’ve been taking photos with my Nikon cameras for about 13 years and am excited to hopefully take my photography to the next level with my bird photos! I’m dedicated to accessibility so I try to provide detailed descriptions in my captions and alt text. A photo of me at 4 or 5 with the binoculars my dad gave me! You can tell that he encouraged me to scope out birds YEARS ago! Better late than never haha My husband and dogs! They’re very kind and patient as they watch me try to capture new critters, with only the occasional “gotta be quicker than that” joke hahaha

Four kittiwakes staggered up the rocks at Bempton Cliffs. They have bright yellow beaks with grey and white plumage and black tips to their tails. In the distance, blurred, there is another cliff with guillemots (or possibly razorbills). The North Sea can also be seen between this cavernous divide.

A Kestrel flying above the White Cliffs of Dover! It has a pale brown underside with lots of speckles and white tail feathers with a dark band at the bottom. At the time of this photo, the sun was high in the sky, so it is heavily shaded as it hovers above. However, the orange feet and yellow/orange beak and inner eye are still visible. RSPB says Kestrels have the nickname of ‘windhover’ which is exactly how I found this creature: It was hovering and riding the breezes coming up and off the cliffs.

The post shows that it is certainly low tide, as much of the post appears to typically sit under water due to the discoloration. In the background, boats and buoys are floating in the river. Further back, the landscape includes a house of sorts, some shipping/trucking structure, and a wind turbine. I personally love the collection of items, with the simple post and bird close and the various elements of our modern society in the distance. To me, it looks how birding feels.
