Tonight my wife and I started putting together plans to sell our forever home, downsize, & get the fuck out of Oklahoma ASAP. Wish us luck. We clearly see we have no choice but to uproot and start over, especially as parents of a trans teen. It's daunting, but we know we can't stay.

If anyone is looking for a fun space opera series, I wholeheartedly recommend the Backyard Starship series by Terry Maggert and J. N. Chaney. Just finished book 25 and enjoyed it as much as the previous 24. There is also a spinoff series and a couple of short stories.

The obvious reasoning behind the inaction is that they're in on the grift. Willing to put up a weak front of righteous indignation, but for the most part, not willing to rock the boat. Moneyed interests are moneyed interests, regardless of the party, and the funding pipers are being paid handsomely.
