Whooooaaaa, this is extremely neat!

And spectropolarimetry (which is the best, and what we used in my first paper too!) is at its core 💙

In a nutshell: astronomers used the polarization of light to study the shape of a supernova explosion before it interacted with surrounding material.

For the first time ever, astronomers have unveiled the shape of a supernova explosion just a day after detection, as the blast was breaking through the star’s surface.

Achieved by our VLT, this feat will help us understand how massive stars die: https://www.eso.org/public/news/eso2520/

the people you feel inferior to have artists they feel that way about, trust me. art is such a vast collection of skills and there is truly no way to quantify skill in a straight line. dont worry about being like other people so much it stops you from wanting to be you.

truly one of the most nauseating things i have heard as an artist to this day is any version of "why do i bother/i should just quit" in response to sharing my art. it is so. fuckin heartbreaking??? to be met with that. esp from someone you know and saw as an art friend.

I've read about ZTF SLRN-2020 event where a star basically ate it's own planet. So I decided to try and depict this from a planet's perspective. It's atmosphere evaporating and getting ripped away by the star. #SciArt #spaceart #astronomy

Something like this has been sorely needed for a long time! Our standards for testing animal problem solving and intelligence have long been antiquated and not well rooted in a framework that includes our own intelligence and problem solving capabilities.

wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

If you've updated to Windows 11 recently, you're probably on version 25H2.

There's a new setting in Settings: Privacy & Security.

Scroll aaaaaaaalll the way to the bottom and you'll see "Text and Image Generation."

TURN IT OFF.
