New paper on anticipatory cash transfers to herders during an extreme winter in Mongolia. ACTs have significant positive effects for poorer recipients, not so much for the rest of our sample.

Personal learnings: Anticipatory action is promising. Targeting matters. More research is needed.
💵 Just accepted 💵 in JAERE:

"Anticipatory cash transfers in the context of weather disasters" by Lukas Mogge (@lukasmogge.bsky.social), Julian Roeckert, and Kati Kraehnert

“The portrayal of the Nazis as right-wing extremists is clearly false, considering that Ernst Röhm, leader of the SA, is flamboyantly gay! Does that sound like Hitler to you? I mean, apart from being actually led by Hitler”

It’s wild how fast people jump at any excuse to hate and harass women. Platforms know it—and it’s great for their business.

If external researchers can map out how smear campaigns or tactics to boost unknown political candidates (like in Romania) work, why can’t platforms address them proactively?
Blake Lively has filed a legal complaint laying out an alleged campaign to tarnish her reputation after she accused Justin Baldoni of misconduct on the set of “It Ends With Us.” A New York Times investigation shows how the fallout unfolded.
