Why aren’t Police Records in England & Wales covered by the Public Records Act? We've been campaigning on this since 2012 - blog for more info:

This was a fascinating talk by Team Pigment - thanks to the organisers for the chance to see these two wonderful lectionaries amongst other treasures. Not to mention Cardinal Wolsey's hat!
One of the greatest treasures in our collections is MS Lat 223 (Cardinal Thomas Wolsey's Gospel Lectionary). Wolsey commissioned two lectionaries, providing readings for the Mass on specific days in the Christian Calendar. Magdalen's copy has readings from the Gospels.

My thoughts on the disgraceful removal of Dr Carla Hayden as Librarian of Congress (and the Archivist of the United States too). LC and NARA are part if the infrastructure of democracy in America, and are under attack. on.ft.com/4mdynBU The US Library of Congress is under attack

A long shot question. We want to reproduce a David Hockney drawing in our collections. I've submitted the official online form a number of times over the last few months but have had no reply. Does anyone know how we could pursue this as there are no other contact details on the Hockney website.

Thanks to the 1,600 people and organisations who responded to the UK Ministry of Justice’s proposals on the retention of wills. Good news: The UK Government has determined not to proceed with any reforms that involve the destruction of original wills

Two weeks today I am running an event in Chippenham exploring the lives of women before 1600 with some @vchlondon.bsky.social friends. It is part of the Maud’s Way project. See 👇
I am excited, but nervous as I usually participate in things rather than organise things.😅

I gather today is #InternationalCatDay! Here are some cat paw prints on the page of one of our Magdalen Hall Buttery Books c. 1691; with a detail from a 1938 Hertford College Cricket Team photo which includes a sweet little kitten.

Today is the 150th anniversary of Hertford College Oxford. Hertford is the successor to the medieval Hart Hall & to Magdalen Hall which became Hertford College in 1874. These institutional twists & turns have led to 3 parallel collections which can be a challenge to cataloguer & researcher alike!

For International Women’s Day some jottings from our 1685 & 1686 Magdalen Hall Buttery Books. Common to see men signing their names at the front of these domestic account books but rare to see female names. Suspect that Katherine Wintborne & Rebecka Lewing did the invisible laundry & bedmaking!
