I gather today is #InternationalCatDay! Here are some cat paw prints on the page of one of our Magdalen Hall Buttery Books c. 1691; with a detail from a 1938 Hertford College Cricket Team photo which includes a sweet little kitten.

Today is the 150th anniversary of Hertford College Oxford. Hertford is the successor to the medieval Hart Hall & to Magdalen Hall which became Hertford College in 1874. These institutional twists & turns have led to 3 parallel collections which can be a challenge to cataloguer & researcher alike!

For International Women’s Day some jottings from our 1685 & 1686 Magdalen Hall Buttery Books. Common to see men signing their names at the front of these domestic account books but rare to see female names. Suspect that Katherine Wintborne & Rebecka Lewing did the invisible laundry & bedmaking!
