Loads of cool stuff is going on in RESTOREID, we are half way through and starting to get really interesting results back. Really looking forward to seeing the results of all the hard work sampling lots of rodents across lots of sites.

A paper for the #eDNA crowd, in particular those using flies for terrestrial biomonitoring. We show that massive pooling works well, reducing costs + time, bringing us a step closer to scalable terrestrial eDNA biomonitoring. doi.org/10.1002/edn3...
An Exploration of DNA Extraction Methods of Fly iDNA for Scalable Biodiversity Monitoring
Metabarcoding of invertebrate-derived DNA (iDNA) is an excellent tool for assessing terrestrial mammal diversity, but the time and costs associated with sample processing constrain its wider adoption....

A PhD Position! Aim is to use pop-scale metagenomics to map global phage diversity and uncover evolutionary signatures that could point to new antimicrobials. Work with @lucyvandorp.bsky.social + Joanne Santini - two creative scientists who are also very fun to work with!

Awesome work Cato! So excited for the results of this PhD, investigating the mechanisms underpinning the relationship between #biodiversity recovery and disease spillover risk #ecosystemrestoration #zoonoticdisease
📢 New poster alert!

Cato Vangenechten presented her PhD research within #RESTOREID on ecosystem restoration & zoonotic disease risk at the Belgian One Health Conference. 🌍🔬

We launched this project a year ago along with an amazing group of collaborators. Our year 1 meeting is now over but it's been incredible seeing the amount of work and the achievements of the project so far. Here's to the next 3 years!
The day began with a project overview by @lucikirkpatrick.bsky.social celebrating Year 1 milestones:
✅ Restore game launch by @glitchers.bsky.social & @ University of Stirling 🎮 (glitchers.itch.io/restore)
✅ 1st paper submission
✅ Sample collection & site visits
✅ Tools in progress
