Here is something that Counselor Matthias informed me about. Joseph told her that once, he was assimilated by the Borg. The assimilation happened in his third anniversary of being in Starfleet. He was Borg for about 3-5 days. Terrifying once you think about it.

To all personnel: My husband may seem a little weird to you all, but he wasn't like this. He told me that he was a emotionally-controlled person back then, but things turned due to the death of his parents when he was 6 years old. Since that time, things just got worse for him during the Academy.
